If you're new around here, on many Wednesdays I stop in to talk about how you can use a given book in speech-language therapy! I adore literacy-based therapy, because there are so many different goals you can tackle with any book!<br />

<br />
Let's talk about <a href="https://amzn.to/2FbP803" target="_blank">Merry Christmas, Mouse</a> by Lauran Numeroff! I adore the If You Give a.... series! Mouse is back for some Christmas fun! This is a very simple story about Mouse decorating a Christmas tree! It starts with one star, then two angels, and so on! There are many communication goals you can address with this story!<br />
<br />
<b>1) Quantitative Concepts</b> - Ask how many rockets are on the tree? You can also work on more and less! Example: There are more rockets than angels or there are less reindeer than toy soldiers!<br />
<b>2) Numerical Adjectives</b> - one angel, nine mittens, etc.. This is a great book to practice using numerical adjectives! You can then go around your speech room and talk about how many you have of different things (example: one tape dispenser, one stapler, five pencils, etc)<br />
<b>3) Plurals </b>- This is such a great book to discuss singular vs. plural. There is only one angel (so that word is singular) and all of the other words are plural, because there are more than one!<br />
<b>4) Irregular Plurals </b>- This book also demonstrates the usage of irregular plurals (ex. four reindeer, five snowmen, and eight elves)<br />
<b>5) Sequencing</b> - Talk about what mouse put on the tree first, second, third, etc<br />
<b>6) Compare/Contrast</b> - You can compare/contrast the different ornaments that Mouse puts on the tree! you can also compare this story to <a href="https://amzn.to/2qrkhCq" target="_blank">Happy Easter, Mouse</a> or <a href="https://amzn.to/2JFEJZ7" target="_blank">Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse</a>!<br />
<b>7) Describing</b> - You can work on describing all of the different ornaments! There is a really nice variety (ex. rockets and snowmen).<br />
<b>8) Inferencing</b> - Near the end of the story it says "only a hundred more to go!" and shows an enormous pile of ornaments! There are some cookie ornaments too! If you have read <a href="https://amzn.to/2PJbmKV" target="_blank">If You Give a Mouse a Cookie</a> to your students, they can infer what Mouse's favorite ornament is! Also, on the very last page Mouse looks extremely worried and the Christmas tree is tilting! This is a great opportunity to practice inferencing! Why is he worried? Why is the tree tilting?<br />
<b>9) Articulation</b> - This is a great book to use to practice final /s/! It's loaded with /s/ words (ex. mouse, robots, etc)<br />
<b>10) Following Directions</b> - You can draw a Christmas tree on a mini dry erase board and then give your students instructions for drawing on more ornaments! You could also bring in a mini Christmas tree and have students practicing following directions with a variety of ornaments! This would be such a fun way to bring this book to life!<br />
<br />
Have you ever used this book in therapy? What skill did you address? Please leave a comment and let me know!<br />

Can you believe it's already time to talk about <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/November-Flipping-for-Literature-2843434" target="_blank">November's Flipping for Literature</a> packet?! <a href="https://amzn.to/2RvIKlg" target="_blank">Duck for President</a> by Doreen Cronin<br />
I just love Doreen Cronin's farm books! This one features Duck (the real star of <a href="https://amzn.to/2DlOVFu" target="_blank">Click, Clack, Moo!</a> haha) and he's fed up with his barnyard chores! He's tired of mowing the lawn, grinding coffee beans, and taking out the trash! Duck decides to overthrow Farmer Brown and organizes an election! He wins by a landslide, but quickly learns that leading a farm is very hard work - so he decides to run for governor instead! haha... He works his way up right to the White House only to discover that being President is very hard work too! What's a duck to do?<br />
<br />
This is a fun book to read during election time! You can use it to compare/contrast governors and presidents. It's also a great book to talk about the varying levels of government!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2AIvFji" target="_blank">Turk and Runt</a> by Lisa Wheeler<br />
This is my favorite turkey themed book! Turk is the biggest and strongest turkey on the farm and his parents are constantly fawning over him! They know that each November, visitors come from far and wide to select a turkey from Wishbone's farm. His parents believe this is a prestigious honor (maybe he's getting selected to play football), but his younger brother, Runt, knows better! Each time someone goes to select Turk, his brother Runt acts crazy and sabotages it! Eventually, his family realizes that he's just trying to save Turk from getting cooked! It's such an adorable story!<br />
<br />
This book can be used to compare/contrast (Turk and Runt), to work on sequencing, describing, and much more!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2DjdfYI" target="_blank">Turkey Trouble</a> by Wendi Silvano<br />
I adore the Turkey series! Turkey is in major trouble - Farmer Jake wants to cook him for Thanksgiving dinner! He disguises himself as various barn animals in hopes that he won't be recognized. He finds the perfect solution by the end of the story - he orders Farmer Jake's family pizza! This is such a cute story! It's great for working on problem solving, sequencing, describing, comparing/contrasting, and more!<br />

<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2JyP351" target="_blank">Strega Nona</a> by Tomie dePaola<br />
I love Strega Nona and Big Anthony! They're two of my favorite characters! Big Anthony starts working for Strega Nona and he overhears her chanting a spell with her magical pot! He tells the townspeople and they don't believe him! When she goes out of town, Big Anthony performs the spell himself and accidentally floods the town with pasta! The townspeople are angry and want to punish Big Anthony. Of course, Strega Nona saves the day and suggests that Big Anthony should have to eat all of the pasta himself. haha! This is a great book to read year round! It's also a great book to use if you can't read a traditional Thanksgiving story in your classroom, because Big Anthony has a pasta feast!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These were a big hit with my students and hundreds of teachers & SLPs have told me how much their students enjoy them! Montgomery<br />
<br />
October is truly my favorite therapy month. I love all things fall and Halloween - especially pumpkins! I don't drink pumpkin spice lattes, but I do eat pumpkin spice donuts and read pumpkin themed books! Today, I'm rounding up some fun read alouds that you can use this fall or Halloween in your therapy sessions!<br />

<a href="https://amzn.to/2EMGZPr" target="_blank">The Biggest Pumpkin Ever</a> by Steven Kroll<br />
This isn't the first time I've featured Desmond and Clayton (two of my favorite mice!) on my blog.... and it probably won't be the last! haha.. I do love this little book series. This time around, they fall in love with the exact same pumpkin! During the day, Clayton waters the pumpkin and Desmond does the same thing at night. They have no idea that they're each watering and fertilizing the same pumpkin. Eventually it becomes enormous! This book is great to target:<br />
<b>- Comparatives/Superlatives</b> - big, bigger, biggest<br />
<b>- How Questions</b> - How to take care of a pumpkin? How to carve a pumpkin?<br />
<b>- Compare/Contrast</b> - Desmond is a field mouse and Clayton is a house mouse. These two characters are great to compare/contrast!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2ywkloM" target="_blank">Big Pumpkin</a> by Erica Silverman<br />
I just love this story! A witch wants some pumpkin pie, so she plants a pumpkin seed! She waters the plant and it eventually becomes gigantic! It's so big that she can't pull it off the vine. Along comes a ghost, who declares that he's stronger than her and he tries to pull it off the vine. He can't either! Then a variety of other Halloween creatures stop by and try to help, but to no avail! Finally, with the help of a teeny tiny bat they are able to get the pumpkin off of the vine and make some pie! It's such a cute story and I love how it's written in a pattern! You can use this book to target:<br />
<b>- Sequencing</b> - First the ghost came along, then a vampire, etc<br />
<b>- Problem Solving</b> - How did they finally get it off the vine? They had to work together!<br />
<b>- Synonyms</b> - I think it would be fun to have students come up with other words for "big." You can get some orange post-its and write a different synonym on each one! <br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2yyoSqA" target="_blank">Pumpkin Jack</a> by Will Hubbell<br />
This is the sweetest story! Tim names his jack-o'-lantern Jack. After Halloween, he keeps him in his room and watches him glow at night. Eventually, he starts to rot and his mother makes him get rid of it. He doesn't have the heart to throw him away, so he takes him out to the garden! Over the weeks, he visits Jack... and each time he looks a little different. The seasons change eventually a tiny sprout appears! Tim takes care of the plant and grows pumpkins for his entire neighborhood! This is a great book to address:<br />
<b>- Time Concepts</b> - What happens during each season to Jack? In the winter, he's covered in snow. In the spring, he's just a pile of seeds.<br />
<b>- Sequencing</b> - Use this book to talk about the lifecycle of a pumpkin and sequence the steps! It's a great way to incorporate science into speech!<br />
<b>- Adjectives</b> - This book features tons of rich vocabulary! Fierce smile, silly face, withered leaves, etc<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2CEszxT" target="_blank">Five Little Pumpkins</a> by Dan Yaccarino<br />
This is a classic book and I love using it in speech therapy! Five little pumpkins are sitting on a gate and one by one they roll down the hill! It's cute, simple, and memorable! Use this book to work on:<br />
<b>- Rhyming</b> - You can even sing this story with your students! You can work on finding all of the rhyming words.<br />
<b>- Sequencing</b> - Work on the words first, second, third, fourth, and fifth! This is an easy book to use to help students use sequential vocabulary.<br />
<b>- Emotions</b> - I love that the pumpkins have different facial expressions! There are three happy pumpkins, a surprised pumpkin, and a scared pumpkin. The surprised pumpkin says "oh my, it's getting late" and the scared pumpkin says "there are witches in the air." I just love those little details! Students can practice different facial expressions and talk about feelings.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2D3AGVJ" target="_blank">The Ugly Pumpkin</a> by Dave Horowitz<br />
Seriously, this is such a sweet story. It's great for anytime in the fall, as it spans all the way until Thanksgiving! The Ugly Pumpkin is slender and not like everyone else. No one ever picks him, but he does get picked on. He's sad, because everyone always plays mean tricks on him. Eventually, he seeks solitude in a garden that's filled with squash. He looks around and discovers that they all look jus like him! He finally fits in and is so happy! All the squash have a Thanksgiving dinner and the Ugly Pumpkin finally has a home. You can target:<br />
<b>- Social Skills</b> - Talk about the things people did to the Ugly Pumpkin and why their behavior is unpleasant. Brainstorm ways to make the Ugly Pumpkin feel happy.<br />
<b>- Compare/Contrast</b> - Compare different pumpkins, they come in all shapes and sizes! You can also compare/contrast Halloween and Thanksgiving.<br />
<b>- Rhyming </b><br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
Your students will love <a href="https://amzn.to/2SgksNw" target="_blank">Turkey Trick or Treat</a> by Wendi Silvano! This is such a clever book series! I just love Turkey and his supreme problem solving skills! haha.. In this book, Turkey desperately wants some Halloween candy! He watches the trick-or-treaters with envy, but then he comes up with a plan! He decides to try on a variety of costumes to try to trick the local farmers into giving him some candy. Of course, nothing gets by Farmer Jake and his friends! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are many goals you can tackle with this fun book: </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>1. Problem Solving</b> - I love using these books to address problem solving! Turkey devises the most hilarious plans! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>2. Describing</b> - You can work on describing all of Turkey's costumes! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>3. Inferencing</b> - Farmer Jake and the other farmers always figure out that it's Turkey! But how? They use inferencing skills. Talk about the clues that the farmers use to infer.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>4. Compare/Contrast </b>- You can compare all of the different costumes! You can also compare this book to the others in the series - <a href="https://amzn.to/2ELG15P" target="_blank">Turkey Trouble</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/2D3d7N0" target="_blank">Turkey Claus</a>! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>5. Vocabulary</b> - This book features tons of wonderful vocabulary words such as marvelous, exclaimed, zoomed, etc. I also love that each time Turkey approaches a new house a different verb is used (examples: zoomed, sailed, danced, floated, etc) </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>6. Context Clues</b> - This is a great book to practice using context clues. For example, "Mable <b>squinted</b> at Turkey though her thick glasses" or "time was running out. The animals <b>rushed</b>..." </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>7. Who questions</b> - Each time Turkey's costume fails, he asks "who has a better idea." You can ask questions like "who came up with the ballerina costume idea?" or "who came up with the pirate costume idea?"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>8. Emotions</b> - The animals are sad, hopeful, disappointed, and finally happy! They experience lots of different emotions throughout the story! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>9. Why questions</b> - Why was it the best Halloween? Why was Turkey able to trick Mable? Why didn't his costumes work? Tons of great why questions to ask throughout this story! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>10. Sequencing</b> - This is a great book to use to practice sequencing and story retelling! Of course, I had to whip up a free story map to go along with this book! I love using story maps! They're great for aiding students in retelling, as the pictures let them know what happened next. These are also great for talking about before/after! I hope you have been enjoying all of the Halloween books that I've been sharing this month. There are so many great books to use in October! If you're new around here, I love literacy-based therapy! <br />
Today is all about <a href="https://amzn.to/2Ckcw8t" target="_blank">The Spooky Wheels on the Bus</a> by J. Elizabeth Mills! This book puts a spooky twist on the popular song, The Wheels on the Bus! This is a great book to use in therapy, because many students are familiar with the song! They're already equipped with some background knowledge and that will set them up for success.<br />
<br />
There are many goals you can target with this cute book:<br />
<b>1. Articulation</b> - This book is filled with /s/ blends! Students will enjoy practicing their sounds and singing! For instance, "five big spiders spin their webs, spin their webs, spin their webs!" or "nine magic brooms go swish, swoosh, swish!"<br />
<br />
This book is also filled with /s/ words! Example "six singing...," "seven silly," "meow, hiss, hiss."<br />
<br />
<b>2. Adjectives</b> - This is a great book to demonstrate how to use adjectives! Examples: spooky bus, noisy cats, glowing wheels, big spiders, etc<br />
<b>3. Quantitative Concepts</b> - You can talk about quantity, example: There are more brooms on the bus than spiders or there are less cats on the bus than witches! Each item is numbered, for example four glowing wheels, five big spiders, etc so you can talk about the quantity of each item on the bus! Ask, how many witches? How many mummies?<br />
<b>4. What Questions</b> - You can ask what each creature is doing! What are the mummies doing? What are the witches doing? What are the cats doing? This is great book to use to practice what questions! You could also ask tons of who questions too! Who is cackling? Who is singing?<br />
<b>5. Setting</b> - I love this book for teaching the setting of the story! It's a great way to demonstrate that setting is not only about the place, but also the time! This story is set on Halloween night on spooky bus!<br />
<b>6. Retelling</b> - Bring the story to life! Add in a school bus toy (I adore the <a href="https://amzn.to/2CnEr7o" target="_blank">Little People School Bus</a>) and other items that can help students retell the story (toy spiders, print out pictures of each character and cut them out). Set all of the items up around your speech room and students can drive the bus around the room to pick up the various creatures!<br />
<b>7. Temporal Concepts</b> - Before/After are tricky concepts! This is a great book to use to practice those concepts. Example: Who got on the bus after the witches? What got on the bus before the spiders?<br />
<b>8. Verbs</b> - Have students re-enact all the fun verbs in the story! The cats hiss, the witches cackle, the mummies sing, and the spiders spin!<br />
<b>9. Compare/Contrast</b> - Compare this story with the original Wheels on the Bus!<br />
<b>10. Inferencing </b>- The pictures in this book are wonderful and they lend themselves to working on inferencing! I'll list some inferences that can be made in this book!<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>In the scene where the bus is picking up the three cats at the bus stop, the cats are holding umbrellas! The song says "two white wipers go creak, creak, creak" but there is no mention of rain! This is a great opportunity for students to infer about the weather! It must be a rainy night! </li>
<li>We don't know it's Halloween night until the very last page, but students can infer that it's Halloween by looking at the very first page! </li>
<li>The mummies are singing and they're each holding mummy babies! The babies are either asleep or yawning. Let's infer, what are the mummies signing? They must be singing lullabies to put their babies to sleep! </li>
<li>Why are the witches cackling? If you look at the picture, they're using their wands to do silly things. For instance, one witch makes a cat have spots! </li>
<li>Why does the boy look worried? His cake has a frog leg sticking out of it! haha </li>
</ul>
<div>
You can truly use the pictures in this book to work on so many skills! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br />
Today's book is <a href="https://amzn.to/2pTjE4l" target="_blank">There Was an Old Mummy Who Swallowed a Spider</a> by Jennifer Ward! This is the perfect book to use in therapy! It's highly repetitive and follows that same pattern as the <i>There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a</i>... series! This silly mummy swallows a variety of spooky creatures - a spider, a rat, and a crow as he makes his way to a haunted house. There are so many different goals you can target with this book:<br />
<br />
<b>1. Rhyming:</b> It's written in rhyme which is great for building phonological awareness!<br />
<b>2. Inferencing:</b> The pictures in this book are absolutely incredible! They're colorful and fun! I love that the author doesn't immediately say what the mummy is going to swallow, so you can look at the pictures to make an inference! There are two whole pages full of pictures accompanied by "There was an old mummy..." and then students can look at the picture to figure out what he's going to swallow next! For instance, in one scene there's a skeleton that looks nervous! We can infer that the mummy is either going to swallow the skeleton or one of his bones!<br />
<b>3. Articulation: </b>This book is jam-packed with /s/ blends (spider, scare, stir, swallowed, splash, spooky, ghost, etc).<br />
<b>4. Adjectives:</b> "old mummy," "spooky ghost," etc.. Students can even come up with their own adjectives to describe the things that he swallows!<br />
<b>5. Setting:</b> This is a great story to focus on the setting! The mummy travels through a cemetery and makes his way to a haunted house!<br />
<b>6. Semantic Absurdities:</b> The mummy swallows all sorts of absurd items! This books is a great way to introduce students to absurdities!<br />
<b>7. Verbs</b> - Each time he swallows something new, that item performs an action. For instance, "he swallowed the crow to <b>poke</b> the rat."<br />
<b>8. Why Questions</b> - This is a great book for focusing on why questions! Why did he swallow the crow? To poke the rat!<br />
<b>9. Emotions</b> - How did the creatures feel right before they got swallowed? How does the mummy feel? How do the kids feel at the end of the story?<br />
<b>10. Sequencing/Story Retelling</b> - I whipped up a free story map that you can use with your students! I love using these types of books to practice sequencing! This story map provides students with visual cues and can help them retell the story!<br />

<br />
This week's book is <a href="https://amzn.to/2DPIA6i" target="_blank">Bone Soup</a> by Cambria Evans! This is a fun Halloween twist on the classic story, <a href="https://amzn.to/2DPyEKb" target="_blank">Stone Soup</a>! Finnigan is a hungry little skeleton! He roams city to city and has developed quite the reputation for his huge appetite! One Halloween, Finnigan wanders into a new city and is delighted at the thought of a Halloween feast. He is spotted by a witch though, who warns the town of Finnigan's arrival. Everyone hides their food! Finnigan is disappointed that the town isn't having a feast and goes door to door asking for food. He's rejected everywhere! He doesn't get discouraged though, instead he starts boiling a soup in the town's square. The townspeople (zombies, mummies, monsters, and the like) all gather around Finnigan's cauldron in awe. Finnigan convinces them all to add their own ingredients! It's a delightful story and students will get a kick out of all the spooky ingredients (bat wings, eyeballs, and spider eggs!).<br />
<br />
There are so many language skills you can address with this story:<br />
<b>1. Adjectives</b> - barren, tasty, delicious, etc<br />
<b>2. Vocabulary</b> - This book is filled with rich vocabulary words such as, wistful, delicacy, shrieked, undaunted, etc<br />
<b>3. Social Skills</b> - Finnigan was not greeted nicely when he entered the town. You can talk about meeting new people and how to be polite. At the end of the story, everyone came together! This is also a great book to talk about making new friends!<br />
<b>4. Sequencing </b>- This is a great story to sequence! You can also just talk about the sequence for making bone soup! You can also bring in a bowl and have students make their own soup! Just grab some q-tips (for bones), <a href="https://amzn.to/2zNdXKV" target="_blank">plastic eyeballs</a>, foam bats, spiders, and more! (shown above)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S46L3xrSUxY/W7PFM47sT1I/AAAAAAAAFnE/dKTDKPowUBkuDNqD7aivOmpeXZyIhRp5gCLcBGAs/s1600/BoneSoup2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S46L3xrSUxY/W7PFM47sT1I/AAAAAAAAFnE/dKTDKPowUBkuDNqD7aivOmpeXZyIhRp5gCLcBGAs/s320/BoneSoup2.png" width="319" /></a></div>
I also found this bone bowl at Michael's! I snagged it for 50% off! It's the perfect companion for this book!<br />
<br />
<b>5. Rhyming</b> - Finnigan chants a bone soup poem that gets everyone's attention!<br />
<b>6. Problem Solving </b>- Finnigan was hungry, but nobody wanted to share their food! How did he solve his problem?<br />
<b>7. Inferencing</b> - I have a feeling this isn't the first time Finnigan made bone soup. ;)<br />
<b>8. Predictions</b> - What will Finnigan do when he goes to the next town? This is truly more of an inference, but this is a great story to make predictions throughout!<br />
<b>9. Compare/Contrast </b>- Compare this story with Stone Soup! You can also compare/contrast all the different ingredients or chicken noodle soup vs. bone soup!<br />
<b>10. Text-To-Self Connections </b>- Students can talk about their favorite kinds of soups and come up with their own recipes!<br />
<br />
Have you used this book in therapy? What skills did you work on? This is truly a great book!<br />
<br />
Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IvDpGgwvFJA/W610HFM5jGI/AAAAAAAAFlI/L4KzrDJrlCA9GncUljGwgBs64rX8XKDIQCLcBGAs/s1600/acornsort2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1129" data-original-width="1129" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IvDpGgwvFJA/W610HFM5jGI/AAAAAAAAFlI/L4KzrDJrlCA9GncUljGwgBs64rX8XKDIQCLcBGAs/s320/acornsort2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
This packet features five fun activities for each speech sound! It addresses /k, g, f, v, p, b, t, d, m, n, s, z, th, sh, ch, j, l, r/, /s/ blends, /r/ blends, and /l/ blends! These can be used with your entire articulation caseload and your students will love them! Let's take a look at each activity!<br />
<br />
First up.... an acorn sort:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_5YFtkCFaew/W611LVJRLGI/AAAAAAAAFlU/dK7XpD39m6MJGu5rGmyjeqH_VQ4jHqT9gCLcBGAs/s1600/acornsort.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1133" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_5YFtkCFaew/W611LVJRLGI/AAAAAAAAFlU/dK7XpD39m6MJGu5rGmyjeqH_VQ4jHqT9gCLcBGAs/s320/acornsort.png" width="317" /></a></div>
Students sort their target words into initial and final positions. After they sort their words, they'll glue them under the corresponding flap!<br />
<br />
A bushel of apple puzzles:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--we5SN87roE/W611jBLmy9I/AAAAAAAAFlc/uSCSQM7_RIwo6MY1E_BzJdNxbufqmgOnwCLcBGAs/s1600/applepuzzles.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1129" data-original-width="1129" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--we5SN87roE/W611jBLmy9I/AAAAAAAAFlc/uSCSQM7_RIwo6MY1E_BzJdNxbufqmgOnwCLcBGAs/s320/applepuzzles.png" width="320" /></a></div>
This is a fun activity that students can revisit again and again! These puzzles feature target words in the initial and final positions. Whenever students want some additional practice, they can flip to this page and put their puzzles together!<br />
<br />
A basket full of acorns:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1K5ekHZumsM/W612CTk-exI/AAAAAAAAFlo/JXsJYmhBkbcgfrIhugSrWA9JEG9CPCKjACLcBGAs/s1600/acornbasket.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1129" data-original-width="1129" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1K5ekHZumsM/W612CTk-exI/AAAAAAAAFlo/JXsJYmhBkbcgfrIhugSrWA9JEG9CPCKjACLcBGAs/s320/acornbasket.png" width="320" /></a></div>
I love interactive pouches! Students can store their words into the basket and take them out at any time for extra practice! These acorns feature sounds in the initial, medial, and final positions! Students can also sort them! You can even use the extra acorns for flap-up activities. See below:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kCRpYEie71U/W612VbCveOI/AAAAAAAAFlw/XfRVD-vy33soXH9VdlIMg1vLFBIPxgwJwCLcBGAs/s1600/acornflaps.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1129" data-original-width="1129" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kCRpYEie71U/W612VbCveOI/AAAAAAAAFlw/XfRVD-vy33soXH9VdlIMg1vLFBIPxgwJwCLcBGAs/s320/acornflaps.png" width="320" /></a></div>
There are 18 acorns! You can use 9 for flap-ups and 9 for the interactive pouch! You'll put glue on the top part of the acorn and then lift up the bottom part to create a flap. Under the flap, students can write a phrase or practicing writing the word.<br />
<br />
Pumpkin Flap-Ups:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LUoGkrGtZg4/W613Kio5vMI/AAAAAAAAFl8/GNyXiTBhNYUC2cXA1riw3AVwA_LOwXA3ACLcBGAs/s1600/pumpkinflaps.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1129" data-original-width="1129" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LUoGkrGtZg4/W613Kio5vMI/AAAAAAAAFl8/GNyXiTBhNYUC2cXA1riw3AVwA_LOwXA3ACLcBGAs/s320/pumpkinflaps.png" width="320" /></a></div>
There are 18 pumpkins (6 initial, 6 medial, and 6 final)! Just glue the top portion down to create the flap! Lift up the flap and write phrases or words underneath! Students will love creating a "pumpkin patch."<br />
<br />
Lastly... a candy corn jar:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uQ3vdYtnGGA/W613qG3tw_I/AAAAAAAAFmE/oj-i6Z97Ulw3FoO92adbknygFixjk9MMwCLcBGAs/s1600/candycornarticulation.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1129" data-original-width="1129" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uQ3vdYtnGGA/W613qG3tw_I/AAAAAAAAFmE/oj-i6Z97Ulw3FoO92adbknygFixjk9MMwCLcBGAs/s320/candycornarticulation.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Confession, I don't like candy corn! I'm sure I'm in the minority! haha... But, I love these cute candy corn jars! Students create a flap with the jar (by only glueing under the lid). Then they'll glue the candy corn around the jar. They can lift up the jar and write sentences underneath! Instead of writing sentences, they can also generate more words that feature their target sound!<br />
<br />

<br />
Today's book is <a href="https://amzn.to/2IgfcER" target="_blank">Ten Timid Ghosts</a> by Jennifer O'Connell! Not only is this book super affordable (only $3.99 on Amazon!) it's also perfect for speech-language therapy! A witch moves into a haunted house and tries to get rid of all the ghosts! They're timid and easily spooked (unusual for a ghost, huh? lol), so she successfully gets rid of them! Except... the ghosts become angry when they realize that they have been tricked! They team up together to scare the witch! It's truly a delightful read! There are so many different language goals you can target with this book!<br />
<br />
<b>1. Rhyming</b> - This book is written in rhyme! It's really fun to read!<br />
<b>2. Quantitative Concepts</b> - The number of ghosts decreases as the story goes on.<br />
<b>3. Past Tense</b> - This book is written in past tense! It has many irregular past tense verbs too (ex. flew, saw, took, etc).<br />
<b>4. Adjectives</b> - timid, haunted, dark, old, brave, etc<br />
<b>5. Character Development</b> - compare the ghosts at the beginning of the story and how they are at the end of the story! At first they're timid and at the end they're brave!<br />
<b>6. Compare/Contrast</b> - Compare the witch and the ghosts!<br />
<b>7. Problem Solving</b> - The witch has a problem and finds a variety of solutions! At the end, the ghosts have a problem (they no longer have a home) and then they have to come up with a solution!<br />
<b>8. Halloween Vocabulary</b> - The witch disguises herself as a variety of Halloween creatures (ghoul, vampire, mummy, etc). Students can also make text-to-self connections with this, as they can talk about their own costumes!<br />
<b>9. Verbs</b> - flew, howled, screamed, dive, dashed, etc<br />
<b>10. Sequencing and Story Retelling</b> - This is a wonderful book to use for sequencing and story retelling! It has such a clear chain of events! I made a free story grid that you can use to help students retell the story!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9EX5Lunw9yI/W6uadFBRfQI/AAAAAAAAFk8/1FMwzrrD_Jk4Qjd-rfDDMhAuJDGSF24NQCLcBGAs/s1600/10%2BTimid%2BGhosts%2Bcover2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9EX5Lunw9yI/W6uadFBRfQI/AAAAAAAAFk8/1FMwzrrD_Jk4Qjd-rfDDMhAuJDGSF24NQCLcBGAs/s400/10%2BTimid%2BGhosts%2Bcover2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
It comes with two versions! A blank version so that students can draw their own pictures and a version filled with visual cues! Students can easily look at the grids to help them retell the story! For instance, the first ghost was scared by a skeleton!<br />

I love fall themes, it's National Pizza Month, and I'm obsessed with Halloween! There are so many books that are perfect to use in October! Let's take a look at the selection from the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/October-Flipping-for-Literature-2797985" target="_blank">October Flipping for Literature</a> packet!<br />

<a href="https://amzn.to/2xAUBqJ" target="_blank">The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza</a> by Philemon Sturges<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wJnOXKfgtow/W6j80xnEf0I/AAAAAAAAFjY/OSuYI0Mhtic2FH-PKfWqRuUG_ljAFdRbgCLcBGAs/s1600/TheLittleRedHen.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wJnOXKfgtow/W6j80xnEf0I/AAAAAAAAFjY/OSuYI0Mhtic2FH-PKfWqRuUG_ljAFdRbgCLcBGAs/s320/TheLittleRedHen.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Fun fact. I'm obsessed with The Little Red Hen! It's my favorite folktale and I love all the different variations too! This version though? It's my favorite favorite! Maybe it's because I love pizza? Maybe it's because the illustrations are awesome? It's seriously a wonderful book! I LOVE using this book to teach context clues and inferencing too. The Little Red Hen goes to a variety of places such as delicatessen and the hardware store. I love having students look at her shopping carts to figure out what those stores are for. It features fabulous vocabulary words too!<br />
<br />
I made a traditional book companion for this story too! I hope to completely update it in 2019, you can find it <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/The-Little-Red-Hen-Makes-a-Pizza-Speech-and-Language-Companion-1151070" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2NBCsD9" target="_blank">Room on the Broom</a> by Julia Donaldson<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ogqyNj8bqk0/W6j-DhbqVUI/AAAAAAAAFjk/1muhNCLRkho9aK8WzlRUs2OQ3ZnAP9uXQCLcBGAs/s1600/RoomontheBroom.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ogqyNj8bqk0/W6j-DhbqVUI/AAAAAAAAFjk/1muhNCLRkho9aK8WzlRUs2OQ3ZnAP9uXQCLcBGAs/s320/RoomontheBroom.png" width="319" /></a></div>
This book is in my top 10 of all time, for sure! I just love it so much! A friendly witch and her darling cat (because all cats are darling #crazycatlady haha) go flying on a windy evening. The wind blows away her hat, so they fly to the ground to go look for it. A dog runs out of the bushes with her hat and they become instant friends! He asks if she has room on her broom and she invites him along for the ride! The wind blows away more things and she makes even more friends! Eventually, the broom snaps from the weight of all the animals! It's such a fun adventure.... oh and there's a dragon too! I don't want to give it all away, because the story is so precious!<br />
<br />
I even made a traditional book companion for it! You can find it <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Room-on-the-Broom-Book-Companion-1466088" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2xzwwRi" target="_blank">Stellaluna</a> by Janell Cannon<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tRUtTFY8NjY/W6j_g86hAcI/AAAAAAAAFjw/3GNOtcq3qWISOWWFzWNJDS-NHWzw-14FQCLcBGAs/s1600/Stellaluna.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tRUtTFY8NjY/W6j_g86hAcI/AAAAAAAAFjw/3GNOtcq3qWISOWWFzWNJDS-NHWzw-14FQCLcBGAs/s320/Stellaluna.png" width="319" /></a></div>
I adore this story! It's about a baby bat that falls into a bird's nest and gets separated from her mother. She's raised alongside three little birds and tries her best to be just like them. She struggles to be as graceful as her newfound siblings and doesn't quite like eating bugs. It's a great book to use to address comparing/contrasting, because you can talk about how birds and bats are alike and different! It also has such a wonderful ending, as Stellaluna gets reunited with her mother and bat family.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2Dt5kJo" target="_blank">Crankenstein</a> by Samantha Berger<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaN5i08oHzk/W6kCJ5SalpI/AAAAAAAAFj8/pPQ1D5x9cLMQNDIub4DDk5jlQhkQ2AWLgCLcBGAs/s1600/Crankenstein.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaN5i08oHzk/W6kCJ5SalpI/AAAAAAAAFj8/pPQ1D5x9cLMQNDIub4DDk5jlQhkQ2AWLgCLcBGAs/s320/Crankenstein.png" width="319" /></a></div>
This is a fun book that explores crankiness! haha! We all get cranky sometimes and this book follows a cranky young boy around! He's not a morning person, so he's cranky in the mornings. He gets cranky on super hot dogs and cranky when he gets sick! He's cranky.... until he meets another Crankenstein and laughs! It's a great book to use to talk about cause/effect and emotions!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2MZ95FD" target="_blank">Where the Wild Things Are</a> by Maurice Sendak<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OPOExdLLRY4/W6kDUF1LhBI/AAAAAAAAFkI/ralN_V5irn4lt0W22VTBYNaUyFImwuOuACLcBGAs/s1600/WheretheWildThingsAre.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OPOExdLLRY4/W6kDUF1LhBI/AAAAAAAAFkI/ralN_V5irn4lt0W22VTBYNaUyFImwuOuACLcBGAs/s320/WheretheWildThingsAre.png" width="319" /></a></div>
I could just eat this story up - I love it so! Max gets sent to his room for being mischievous and then imagines a brand new world! His room becomes a forest and it's filled with Wild Things! This book is truly a wild rumpus! Max becomes the king of the Wild Things, but eventually starts to miss him mother. Much to the Wild Things' chagrin, Max sails back to his room and is ready for dinner!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_BQpGV_9sio/W6kFf928_ZI/AAAAAAAAFkU/x5cssoejM5QEnV20H1OsudjvwknXSlK3wCLcBGAs/s1600/OctLiteratureFlips.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_BQpGV_9sio/W6kFf928_ZI/AAAAAAAAFkU/x5cssoejM5QEnV20H1OsudjvwknXSlK3wCLcBGAs/s320/OctLiteratureFlips.png" width="319" /></a></div>
These <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Literature-Flip-Books-Bundle-2480206" target="_blank">Literature Flip Book Companions</a> also come with mini booklets (not pictured). <i>Where the Wild Things Are </i>also comes with a miniature party planner and <i>Crankenstein</i> comes with a mini booklet called Happystein! Students have to write about events and scenarios that would make them happy (similar to how <i>Crankenstein</i> talks about scenarios that make kids cranky!). <i>Room on the Broom</i> comes with a mini story telling booklet and the other two book companions feature mini booklets that address story elements!<br />
<br />
These interactive companions also come in a <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Literature-Flip-Books-Bundle-2480206" target="_blank">year long bundle</a>! It's 50% off and it's a great way to collect literature flip books for 52 different stories! These companions are unique and make reading fun!<br />

I love scarecrows, falling leaves, and pumpkin-flavored everything! Since the first day of fall is around the corner, I decided to round-up some of my favorite leaf-themed books for you!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://amzn.to/2NTHpGP" target="_blank">We're Going on a Leaf Hunt</a> by Steve Metzger<br />
This book is perfect for speech-langauge therapy! It follows the general outline of the classic - <a href="https://amzn.to/2pmjCBH" target="_blank">We're Going on a Bear Hunt</a>! Three children go hunting for colorful leaves and along they way, they encounter a few obstacles - a mountain, a waterfall, a lake, etc! Each time they find a new leaf, we also learn about a new kind of tree (hickory, maple, birch, etc)! It's packed full of language opportunities. You can use this book to target:<br />
<b>1. Prepositions</b> - They can go under the mountain, so they have to go over it!<br />
<b>2. Adjectives</b> - This book is packed with descriptive words! Colorful leaves, cold lake, tall mountain, etc<br />
<b>3. Sequencing</b> - I love this book for sequencing and retelling! At the end, the kids have to retrace their steps!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2QKcn30" target="_blank">Leaves</a> by David Ezra Stein<br />
This is a new book in my collection! I'm already in love with it! First, the artwork is gorgeous. It's about a baby bear cub that experiences autumn for the first time! He's confused that the leaves are starting to fall and is worried about the trees. He even tries to help the trees by attempting to put the leaves back on their branches! So, so, sweet! Baby bear grows sleepy and eventually finds a hole and fills it with leaves and goes to sleep. When he wakes back up...... it's spring! He's so happy to see that the leaves are beginning to grow back. Beyond precious! Use this book to tackle:<br />
<b>1. Time concepts</b> - This book beautifully illustrates the changing of the seasons!<br />
<b>2. Problem solving</b> - Baby Bear was very logical! He saw the leaves were falling and tried to put them back on! haha<br />
<b>3. Sequencing</b> - This ties into time concepts, but it's a great way to practice sequencing the seasons! It's also a great book to work on retelling! First, the leaves fell and then baby bear got sleepy. He then fell asleep, it snowed, and then he woke up in the springtime!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2Da8guk" target="_blank">When the Leaf Blew In</a> by Steve Metzger<br />
This is one of my all-time favorite books to use in autumn! It's so much fun and it feels like it was written just for speech-language therapy! There are so many different goals you can address! It takes place on a farm and one day a leaf blows in and a cow sneezes! This sets off a hilarious chain of events! It causes a spider to land on the owl and that causes the owl to swoop out of the barn... and it goes on and on! haha<br />
1. Cause/Effect - This book is perfect for teaching cause/effect!<br />
2. Action words - hopped, buzzed, swooped, etc. The animals perform all sorts of actions!<br />
3. Past tense - All of the verbs are in past tense, which makes it the perfect mentor text for teaching that skill!<br />
<br />
I love this book so much, I wrote all about it a few years ago! Check it out <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2015/09/when-leaf-blew-in-freebie.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> and scoop up a free story retelling booklet too!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A-FNTTJknC4/W6JstfJCaeI/AAAAAAAAFio/E2TYRLBX_8wst3wduxAfC1cfVTQ0vK8iwCLcBGAs/s1600/WhenLeafBlew.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A-FNTTJknC4/W6JstfJCaeI/AAAAAAAAFio/E2TYRLBX_8wst3wduxAfC1cfVTQ0vK8iwCLcBGAs/s320/WhenLeafBlew.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2pkfSQT" target="_blank">Mouse's First Fall</a> by Lauren Thompson<br />
This is such a fun and simple book! One fall day, two mice go outside to play in the leaves! They watch the leaves tumble and fall! They also compare the different leaves - some are skinny, some are pointy, some are smooth! It's great to work on:<br />
<b>1. Describing</b> - yellow leaves, orange leaves, pointy leaves, etc<br />
<b>2. Verbs</b> - The mice run, skip, kick, and swish! There are so many actions that take place in this book! It would be so fun to grab some fake leaves at a craft store and then have students act out some of the things that occur in the book!<br />
<b>3. Compare/Contrast</b> - You can talk about how the leaves are alike and how they're different!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2QDH5KS" target="_blank">There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves</a> by Lucille Colandro<br />
The Old Lady is last, but certainly not least! There is an Old Lady book for nearly all occasions! I love these silly books and they're always a big hit with children! This time, the Old Lady swallows some leaves and other fun fall items! I love the repetitive nature of this book! You can use it to work on:<br />
<b>1. Sequencing</b> - This book is highly repetitive, which is great for working on sequencing and retelling!<br />
<b>2. Fall vocabulary</b> - She swallows leaves, a pumpkin, hay, and all sorts of things! At the end, a scarecrow pops out!<br />
<b>3. What questions</b> - This is such a wonderful book to practice what questions. What did she swallow?<br />
<b>4. Before/After concepts</b> - This series is one of my favorite resources for teaching before and after! Practice answering questions like "what did she swallow after the leaves?" or "what did she swallow before the pumpkin?"<br />
<br />
I also created a book companion for this years ago! Check it out <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/There-Was-an-Old-Lady-Who-Swallowed-Some-Leaves-Book-Companion-1536674?aref=3ilqyuut" target="_blank">here</a>!<br />

So.. what is it?! It's a membership site designed for pediatric speech-language pathologists! It features a monthly materials library, a resource library, and I'll be adding in new materials all the time! It's a great way to acquire all of my future materials! Let's break it down:<br />
<br />
<b>Monthly Library</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HDdS2VjBs04/W6Jb_3YdzgI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/J9-r_V5IxQEURky3l5WEbOt3iJLIt1XfwCEwYBhgL/s1600/MonthlyLibrary.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HDdS2VjBs04/W6Jb_3YdzgI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/J9-r_V5IxQEURky3l5WEbOt3iJLIt1XfwCEwYBhgL/s320/MonthlyLibrary.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Right off the bat, you'll have an entire year's worth of therapy planned out for you! Each month you'll receive materials for stuttering, apraxia, phonology, articulation, and language! The stuttering materials come from my Fluency In a Snap series! The apraxia materials rotate between my three apraxia series - Apraxia on the Go, Snip and Stick Apraxia, and Apraxia Printables! Here's a peek at what to expect from Apraxia on the Go:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

They're perfect for teaching, reinforcing, and reviewing language skills. Notebooks create a portfolio of sorts and a reference tool for students. Let's take a look at some of the skills covered in the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/September-Interactive-Language-Notebook-2757879" target="_blank">September Edition</a>!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Dysw2bmNP7I/W5Pm84xgeOI/AAAAAAAAFeQ/TwZIsOs0rOk9H1HqEzoUx9pcpSu4gXsFgCLcBGAs/s1600/irregularplurals.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Dysw2bmNP7I/W5Pm84xgeOI/AAAAAAAAFeQ/TwZIsOs0rOk9H1HqEzoUx9pcpSu4gXsFgCLcBGAs/s320/irregularplurals.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There are tons of grammar skills covered, such as regular and irregular nouns! This activity can be differentiated! Students can lift the flap and then write the word in plural form underneath or they can choose the correct visual option and then glue it underneath the flap! Here's an example of that:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uKWF1V0pEkU/W5PnWyTTKgI/AAAAAAAAFeY/Y_ufNEn01T4UmmM0qP8-ZaAtqyJaZdaVACLcBGAs/s1600/irregularplurals2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1131" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uKWF1V0pEkU/W5PnWyTTKgI/AAAAAAAAFeY/Y_ufNEn01T4UmmM0qP8-ZaAtqyJaZdaVACLcBGAs/s320/irregularplurals2.png" width="318" /></a></div>
This is such a great reference page!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wtuUPV1enW4/W5PoBooX2EI/AAAAAAAAFek/XDQ4ZqD3LEstEdOFZ87eAgUjEbhGWBxnwCLcBGAs/s1600/posessivenouns.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wtuUPV1enW4/W5PoBooX2EI/AAAAAAAAFek/XDQ4ZqD3LEstEdOFZ87eAgUjEbhGWBxnwCLcBGAs/s320/posessivenouns.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Posessive nouns are also covered! In this activity, students lift the flap and write about what the child owns. Examples: "Jeremy's radio" or "Julie's cat"<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0sSzulbmgDY/W5PoWUXdphI/AAAAAAAAFes/EoN3g-YP1Ys3gTsypQJKggWH70azUhb0wCLcBGAs/s1600/pronouns.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0sSzulbmgDY/W5PoWUXdphI/AAAAAAAAFes/EoN3g-YP1Ys3gTsypQJKggWH70azUhb0wCLcBGAs/s320/pronouns.png" width="319" /></a></div>
I love using interactive sorts! They're a great way for students to visually organize information. In this activity, students look at pictures of boys and girls and then determine what pronoun they should use!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KYOzgjPcIW4/W5Pog5Xf7UI/AAAAAAAAFew/dpXUDnJxhDwQG-2YyTgpcI5V8XpWOQimwCLcBGAs/s1600/pronouns2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1131" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KYOzgjPcIW4/W5Pog5Xf7UI/AAAAAAAAFew/dpXUDnJxhDwQG-2YyTgpcI5V8XpWOQimwCLcBGAs/s320/pronouns2.png" width="318" /></a></div>
After students sort each person, they can then practice using pronouns in sentences. Example: She is a firefighter or She is wearing red.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o5WZkxiD_Vw/W5PpKruVmaI/AAAAAAAAFfA/K4-tLeIzVnQqspT2hYcYRQ9jnn6qG1EbACLcBGAs/s1600/commonvspropernouns.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o5WZkxiD_Vw/W5PpKruVmaI/AAAAAAAAFfA/K4-tLeIzVnQqspT2hYcYRQ9jnn6qG1EbACLcBGAs/s320/commonvspropernouns.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There is also a common versus proper noun sort!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_eihlbSxnE/W5PpY6b_WgI/AAAAAAAAFfE/r3Wbz9TvgmMAhqt6u9vx3X5gXi_BuNAswCLcBGAs/s1600/subjectverbagreement.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_eihlbSxnE/W5PpY6b_WgI/AAAAAAAAFfE/r3Wbz9TvgmMAhqt6u9vx3X5gXi_BuNAswCLcBGAs/s320/subjectverbagreement.png" width="319" /></a></div>
The September edition covers when to use a vs an! Subject verb agreement can be so tricky! This notebook provides lots of opportunities for practice and students will end up with some great reference pages! Irregular past tense is also covered in this edition!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This notebook also features a ton of fun activities that are designed to enhance vocabulary skills. There are two category sorts (farm vs. zoo animals & summer actions vs. fall actions). There are also activities for antonyms, synonyms, and multiple meaning words.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AhU5ekJwS7Y/W5Pqd8pWADI/AAAAAAAAFfc/BpC3SVq_AAcMw3xIw_Tuarlf7KnH6NJxwCLcBGAs/s1600/describing.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AhU5ekJwS7Y/W5Pqd8pWADI/AAAAAAAAFfc/BpC3SVq_AAcMw3xIw_Tuarlf7KnH6NJxwCLcBGAs/s320/describing.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There are also activities that provide students the opportunity to practice describing. There are visual cues on each activity. Under each flap, the students write the relevant detail. For instance, underneath "where can you find it," students can write "zoo" or "jungle."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jmZ3Ol7SDSo/W5Pq2l8hHmI/AAAAAAAAFfk/eSX8s5JAdxw__wu-pU1mS6OV8WQYt5dJACLcBGAs/s1600/venndiagram.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jmZ3Ol7SDSo/W5Pq2l8hHmI/AAAAAAAAFfk/eSX8s5JAdxw__wu-pU1mS6OV8WQYt5dJACLcBGAs/s320/venndiagram.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There are also four interactive venn diagrams!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OB_kNxfL_QI/W5Pq9JhEGEI/AAAAAAAAFfs/ZwQ95mr093ERs6KH82fwUM5omxIeB0HaACLcBGAs/s1600/sequencing.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OB_kNxfL_QI/W5Pq9JhEGEI/AAAAAAAAFfs/ZwQ95mr093ERs6KH82fwUM5omxIeB0HaACLcBGAs/s320/sequencing.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There are a variety of activities that address sequencing!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-054H-yb8bZU/W5PrEREzm2I/AAAAAAAAFfw/uwzfv_rUaYw3zUsQw9CHETyyvXUbZcjbgCLcBGAs/s1600/whquestions.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-054H-yb8bZU/W5PrEREzm2I/AAAAAAAAFfw/uwzfv_rUaYw3zUsQw9CHETyyvXUbZcjbgCLcBGAs/s320/whquestions.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Students will love this interactive pencil pouch! Each pencil features a WH question that students have to answer. This is a great activity to revisit for additional practice. After it's finish, students can turn to this page and take out the pencils to practice answering the questions throughout the year!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4DYfk1dV72I/W5Pru8r0yLI/AAAAAAAAFgE/QO4FrXxJcqAO_TKkhIrOIoMcdUmbtySIACLcBGAs/s1600/whfilefolder.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4DYfk1dV72I/W5Pru8r0yLI/AAAAAAAAFgE/QO4FrXxJcqAO_TKkhIrOIoMcdUmbtySIACLcBGAs/s320/whfilefolder.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There's also a WH question file folder booklet! This is so much fun to construct and is a great tool to teach how to answer WH questions. This activity can also stand alone! Instead of gluing it into a notebook, students can just staple it along the left-hand side to create a book!<br />
<br />
There are 40 pages featured inside, so this is just a small sampling!<br />

They're such a great way to organize information and the hands-on approach creates a meaningful learning experience. Most importantly, they are a great way to achieve 100+ trials! They keep students laser-focused on their target words!<br />
<br />
I've decided to create visual library on my blog of all of my interactive notebooks activities! Just click the "interactive notebooks" link at the bottom of this post to see all of the current blog posts!<br />
<br />
Let's take a peek inside the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/September-Interactive-Articulation-Notebook-2744556" target="_blank">September Interactive Articulation Notebook</a>!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1TXzg6693R4/W3rlhi0Z_xI/AAAAAAAAFcE/IVGGfsXLtg05d-h3ic1dExJbXyvmPi66QCLcBGAs/s1600/puzzlepocket.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1TXzg6693R4/W3rlhi0Z_xI/AAAAAAAAFcE/IVGGfsXLtg05d-h3ic1dExJbXyvmPi66QCLcBGAs/s320/puzzlepocket.png" width="319" /></a></div>
First up, there is an interactive puzzle pouch! I love this activity, because students can revisit it time and time again! Whenever they need some some additional practice, they can flip to their puzzle pocket page! Puzzles are engaging and a great way to get in some repetitive drills!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w5QzHiFJciA/W3rmJpqrD2I/AAAAAAAAFcM/XDndZdljWSkKSRTpfQxuaHj8Q2D18xmSQCLcBGAs/s1600/sort.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1104" data-original-width="1125" height="314" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w5QzHiFJciA/W3rmJpqrD2I/AAAAAAAAFcM/XDndZdljWSkKSRTpfQxuaHj8Q2D18xmSQCLcBGAs/s320/sort.png" width="320" /></a></div>
I love this initial and final sort! It provides students with the opportunity to practice their sounds in multiple positions of words. This is also a great way to weave in phonemic awareness, as students practice identifying the sound at the beginning and end of the words! It also requires students to visually organize - there's so much going on with this little activity!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J7VdUH4ufnY/W3rpqF9xghI/AAAAAAAAFcY/dkRakM-7Ouw3PCtDcQpgsFgi1GgMd4SfQCLcBGAs/s1600/crazyphrases.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1129" height="319" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J7VdUH4ufnY/W3rpqF9xghI/AAAAAAAAFcY/dkRakM-7Ouw3PCtDcQpgsFgi1GgMd4SfQCLcBGAs/s320/crazyphrases.png" width="320" /></a></div>
These crazy phrases flap-ups are fun! Students lift the flap and write a phrase containing the given word (example: my mug or yellow gold).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MM_Q3ZFxiDU/W3rp3xr9VXI/AAAAAAAAFcc/u-rNOPIqIvghbS6jw9BOKLFxeFVzq53ZwCLcBGAs/s1600/phrases2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MM_Q3ZFxiDU/W3rp3xr9VXI/AAAAAAAAFcc/u-rNOPIqIvghbS6jw9BOKLFxeFVzq53ZwCLcBGAs/s320/phrases2.png" width="319" /></a></div>
If students are not yet writing phrases, you can also have them just practice writing the word underneath. That's what I did with my kindergarten students! When an activity called for writing phrases or sentences, I just had them write the word (or in some cases - merely attempt to write the word haha).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GaJtcqPmQhI/W3rqTSsLtzI/AAAAAAAAFco/aZB85XnDNW87lML8EnIvW8IeacWWllJlwCLcBGAs/s1600/articulationaccordion.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GaJtcqPmQhI/W3rqTSsLtzI/AAAAAAAAFco/aZB85XnDNW87lML8EnIvW8IeacWWllJlwCLcBGAs/s320/articulationaccordion.png" width="319" /></a></div>
This activity showcases sounds in the initial, medial, and final position! Under each word, students can put a check or smiley face if they produced the word correctly. This is a great opportunity for self-assessment. Students can tap on each word and practice it 10 times! Then they can go through the words again and put them in phrases, then in sentences, etc. This is also a great page to revisit! If you don't have anything planned one day, have students flip to this page and use it as an interactive word list!<br />
<br />
Each monthly notebook addresses /k, g, f, v, p, t, m, n, s, th, sh, ch, r, l/, /s/ blends, /r/ blends, and /l/ blends! If you're interested, this packet is also in a <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Interactive-Articulation-Notebooks-Bundle-for-Speech-Therapy-2636577" target="_blank">year long bundle</a>! It's 25% off!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

They truly take learning to another level. They're the ultimate learning tool, as students can use them for reinforcement, review, and can refer to them time and time again!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QeNXMQOJt8E/W3nvy9mKuRI/AAAAAAAAFZQ/A1NtkRVW56k_tX1H7OoPexTT1Lckg7WMwCLcBGAs/s1600/pronounsort.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QeNXMQOJt8E/W3nvy9mKuRI/AAAAAAAAFZQ/A1NtkRVW56k_tX1H7OoPexTT1Lckg7WMwCLcBGAs/s320/pronounsort.png" width="319" /></a></div>
I created my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Interactive-Language-Notebooks-Bundle-2696448?utm_source=SIS%20Blog&utm_campaign=AugBlogLangINBbundle" target="_blank">interactive language notebooks</a> during the 2016-2017 school year and I just realized that I have never blogged about them! I decided to do a blog series to create a visual library and reference for all of my language (and articulation) notebooks! Just click the "interactive notebooks" category on the sidebar or at the bottom of this blog post to see all of the current notebook blogs!<br />
<br />
First, my monthly language notebooks cover the common core language standards for grades K-2 (except they don't cover punctuation).<br />
<br />
Let's peek inside the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/August-Interactive-Language-Notebook-2696495" target="_blank">August notebook</a>! Note.... this is a small sampling! Altogether, there are 39 activities included.<br />
<br />
First up, a glimpse of the grammar pages:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LIN9Qq46VkQ/W3nxinuyNAI/AAAAAAAAFZ4/s1_CrjbETW0uD33Fvi9tB8AjoKNdDbIxACLcBGAs/s1600/Pronounsort2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LIN9Qq46VkQ/W3nxinuyNAI/AAAAAAAAFZ4/s1_CrjbETW0uD33Fvi9tB8AjoKNdDbIxACLcBGAs/s320/Pronounsort2.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There is a pronoun sort for he, she, and they! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9SL5kLW3NZs/W3nwwpVBP7I/AAAAAAAAFZc/HA_CMeZ9wKQEqwzibLAFEX2MUFvwcUeYQCLcBGAs/s1600/verbsort.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9SL5kLW3NZs/W3nwwpVBP7I/AAAAAAAAFZc/HA_CMeZ9wKQEqwzibLAFEX2MUFvwcUeYQCLcBGAs/s320/verbsort.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There is a past/present verb sort! Under each flap, students will glue the verbs:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MqJiG3jqkbM/W3nw69NiQpI/AAAAAAAAFZk/a4UJ3-848lsRPqY1FauLiRNxy0E4mzADQCLcBGAs/s1600/verbsort2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MqJiG3jqkbM/W3nw69NiQpI/AAAAAAAAFZk/a4UJ3-848lsRPqY1FauLiRNxy0E4mzADQCLcBGAs/s320/verbsort2.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Let's be honest.... grammar can be a little boring, but these hands-on activities make working on these skills memorable and engaging!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SerEyhj3Alw/W3nxrPG2wiI/AAAAAAAAFZ8/7XKUTcVkW5Yu2RxO5sOxaAyuhDm6qpf4ACLcBGAs/s1600/nounsort.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SerEyhj3Alw/W3nxrPG2wiI/AAAAAAAAFZ8/7XKUTcVkW5Yu2RxO5sOxaAyuhDm6qpf4ACLcBGAs/s320/nounsort.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Clearly, I love using sorts! haha.. These also come with visual word pieces that show singular and plural nouns.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8810xzzSCmE/W3nyMP4bcbI/AAAAAAAAFaM/Yw0iygf1JNwhurO3idJI8QGQ9lf_SP8wwCLcBGAs/s1600/nounsort2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1127" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8810xzzSCmE/W3nyMP4bcbI/AAAAAAAAFaM/Yw0iygf1JNwhurO3idJI8QGQ9lf_SP8wwCLcBGAs/s320/nounsort2.png" width="319" /></a></div>
You can make this activity more difficulty by having students generate and write the words themselves.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qNUCoBF7roI/W3ny37KUW1I/AAAAAAAAFaU/0uDEIOJw0SMW9RO-kxR2T45QONNajFhcwCLcBGAs/s1600/isandare.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qNUCoBF7roI/W3ny37KUW1I/AAAAAAAAFaU/0uDEIOJw0SMW9RO-kxR2T45QONNajFhcwCLcBGAs/s320/isandare.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Subject-verb agreement with is and are! Students just lift up each flap and write in the missing word!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

You can also find regular plural flap-ups! Students just lift the flap and write the word in plural form:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GfI5Nt93Y3w/W3nzn2sD4XI/AAAAAAAAFao/hJ-zM6-umpkohYBhFKbKf8Oqm_JrrvD5ACLcBGAs/s1600/regularplurals.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GfI5Nt93Y3w/W3nzn2sD4XI/AAAAAAAAFao/hJ-zM6-umpkohYBhFKbKf8Oqm_JrrvD5ACLcBGAs/s320/regularplurals.png" width="319" /></a></div>
On to some of the vocabulary activities! This packet addresses categories, synonyms, antonyms, and multiple meaning words! <span id="goog_832260090"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g8IywXtbjqA/W3n0H3YnDVI/AAAAAAAAFa0/m2sZHMVtkCgo5fK-JM4ajm14B_gXET4CwCLcBGAs/s1600/antonyms.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g8IywXtbjqA/W3n0H3YnDVI/AAAAAAAAFa0/m2sZHMVtkCgo5fK-JM4ajm14B_gXET4CwCLcBGAs/s320/antonyms.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Students love interactive pouches! This is such a great activity, because it can be revisited time and time again! Whenever students want/need some more practice, they can just take out their puzzle pieces!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xbDefHYh2dA/W3n00QsfknI/AAAAAAAAFbA/7UCtxTzBPwon3ncsKkIByMrkzCbK1JoxACLcBGAs/s1600/multiple%2Bmeanings.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xbDefHYh2dA/W3n00QsfknI/AAAAAAAAFbA/7UCtxTzBPwon3ncsKkIByMrkzCbK1JoxACLcBGAs/s320/multiple%2Bmeanings.png" width="319" /></a></div>
These double flaps are fun! Underneath each picture, students can write the two meanings for each word.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t8PDjS8McRA/W3n0-qqoZhI/AAAAAAAAFbE/YlU-3nv-3dEx91Y1IkXLgiKT4woYEdAtQCLcBGAs/s1600/multiplemeaning2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t8PDjS8McRA/W3n0-qqoZhI/AAAAAAAAFbE/YlU-3nv-3dEx91Y1IkXLgiKT4woYEdAtQCLcBGAs/s320/multiplemeaning2.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Now on to some miscellaneous skills! This packet also addresses comparing/contrasting, sequencing, describing, and WH Questions.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yimNkHSxSKo/W3n1RN8dRHI/AAAAAAAAFbQ/PStb1tjTXhIhwJLUHRS0kvw5hJDN0J_0QCLcBGAs/s1600/venndiagram1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yimNkHSxSKo/W3n1RN8dRHI/AAAAAAAAFbQ/PStb1tjTXhIhwJLUHRS0kvw5hJDN0J_0QCLcBGAs/s320/venndiagram1.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Just lift up each flap to write the similarities and differences!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-88StQvTabbs/W3n1Zuz1laI/AAAAAAAAFbU/MrdIaI0IeyYtCEZN4B9cIoxBdv4IU0VngCLcBGAs/s1600/whquestions.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-88StQvTabbs/W3n1Zuz1laI/AAAAAAAAFbU/MrdIaI0IeyYtCEZN4B9cIoxBdv4IU0VngCLcBGAs/s320/whquestions.png" width="319" /></a></div>
This is a great review on how to answer each WH question. For example: You answer when questions with a time!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zka4rtBUUKk/W3n1nszV9HI/AAAAAAAAFbc/tkGrZabZ-fM4NTsfYpX1MVH7kVi3hfrcQCLcBGAs/s1600/wherequestions.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zka4rtBUUKk/W3n1nszV9HI/AAAAAAAAFbc/tkGrZabZ-fM4NTsfYpX1MVH7kVi3hfrcQCLcBGAs/s320/wherequestions.png" width="319" /></a></div>
There are also flap-ups for each type of WH question. This is an example of the where page! Students just lift up each flap and write/draw their answer!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QCsYHaBqShg/W3n17xpeZOI/AAAAAAAAFbo/pyR0xAndJ7U5wWjkgaqpBN7BSIZlE6_OwCLcBGAs/s1600/describing.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QCsYHaBqShg/W3n17xpeZOI/AAAAAAAAFbo/pyR0xAndJ7U5wWjkgaqpBN7BSIZlE6_OwCLcBGAs/s320/describing.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Here's one last peek! These are the describing accordions. Underneath each section, students will write their answer. For instance, underneath "what group does it belong to?" students will write "furniture" for the desk.<br />

Can you believe we're now talking about the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/September-Flipping-for-Literature-2754993" target="_blank">September</a>?! This year is going by so fast! There are so many great books you can grab off of your shelf in September, but let's talk about four of them!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ca5o-8lCLeA/W3WBQFti7kI/AAAAAAAAFXg/AGKmYylSW6IfVSKYMjYq6Z_7-tFyVOwGgCLcBGAs/s1600/SeptemberReadAlouds.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ca5o-8lCLeA/W3WBQFti7kI/AAAAAAAAFXg/AGKmYylSW6IfVSKYMjYq6Z_7-tFyVOwGgCLcBGAs/s320/SeptemberReadAlouds.png" width="319" /></a></div>

<a href="https://amzn.to/2KZBIS6" target="_blank">The Man Who Walked Between the Towers</a> by Mordicai Gerstein<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jTYjZF1x8vY/W3WBqlS92TI/AAAAAAAAFXo/vQOza8LnVHc-NiOeVMOeM3agc_O0CvCIwCLcBGAs/s1600/ManWhoWalkedBetweentheTowersflip.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jTYjZF1x8vY/W3WBqlS92TI/AAAAAAAAFXo/vQOza8LnVHc-NiOeVMOeM3agc_O0CvCIwCLcBGAs/s320/ManWhoWalkedBetweentheTowersflip.png" width="318" /></a></div>
This is truly one of the most beautiful books that I own. It's a Caldecott Medal winner that tells the story of the Twin Towers and the street performer that walked a tightrope between them. Philippe Petit watched as the towers were being constructed and one day disguised himself as a construction worker so that he could install his tightrope. I love how this book weaves together the memories of Philippe and the towers. This is a wonderful book to teach young children about the World Trade Center. You can read another blog post about it <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-man-who-walked-between-towers.html" target="_blank">HERE.</a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2BiU6Gc" target="_blank">Wemberly Worried</a> by Kevin Henkes<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C2lIoRXalSA/W3WEXR8zRaI/AAAAAAAAFX0/fExqumELicEJuxWm_FdzdtNPtYxmTiFoQCLcBGAs/s1600/WemberlyFlips.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C2lIoRXalSA/W3WEXR8zRaI/AAAAAAAAFX0/fExqumELicEJuxWm_FdzdtNPtYxmTiFoQCLcBGAs/s320/WemberlyFlips.png" width="319" /></a></div>
I've blogged about Wemberly several times over the years, but I just love this book so much! Wemberly worries about everything and she's especially anxious about starting school! When she goes to school on the first day, she meets someone just like her and her worries disappear! The school year is still new in September (and just starting for some), which makes this a perfect read! This is a great book to use to talk about emotions and it's very relatable!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2Bf1Poy" target="_blank">The Bad Case of Stripes</a> by David Shannon<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R6FpRIfaT5Y/W3WFPWhNwZI/AAAAAAAAFYA/deMwH8srMmAqbBaYtc1HdsAc8hr4BaFpACLcBGAs/s1600/BadCaseofStripesFlip.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R6FpRIfaT5Y/W3WFPWhNwZI/AAAAAAAAFYA/deMwH8srMmAqbBaYtc1HdsAc8hr4BaFpACLcBGAs/s320/BadCaseofStripesFlip.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Camila Cream worries about what other people will think about her. She loves lima beans, but she never eats them. Her friends hate lima beans and she wants to fit in. It's the first day of school and suddenly she's covered in stripes! This is a wonderful story about the importance of being yourself! The imagery in this story is so vivid and it's my favorite book to use to teach visualization! You can read more about that <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2014/05/visualizing-with-camilla-cream.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />

<a href="https://amzn.to/2KYODUn" target="_blank">How I Became A Pirate</a> by Melinda Long<br />

This is another book that I've blogged about repeatedly over the years! haha! I love pirates and this is my favorite pirate story! Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19th, so this is a great book for September! Jeremy Jacob finds himself on Braid Beard's ship and learns how to become a pirate! He loves that there's nobody there to tell him what to do, except when it's bedtime. He starts to miss his family and begins to question life as a pirate. It's such a fun story and it keeps children captivated!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2Pbh4BO" target="_blank">Enemy Pie</a> by Derek Munson is such a fun book with a surprising twist! The narrator is having a marvelous summer break.... until Jeremy Ross moves into the neighborhood. Jeremy Ross is an amazing pitcher (who strikes the narrator out) and he even has a trampoline (and invited everyone to jump on it, except for the narrator). Jeremy Ross becomes enemy number one! The narrator confides in his dad, who happens to have the perfect antidote for enemies - enemy pie. The recipe is top secret and in order for it to work.... the narrator must first spend an entire day with his enemy!<br />
<br />
It's a wonderful story about making new friends! It's perfect for the beginning of the school year or year round! There are so many language skills you can target using this book.<br />
<br />
1. <b>Predictions</b> - This book is perfect for working on making predictions! The narrator's dad keeps the recipe top secret! You can work on predicting the ingredients (worms, dirt, snot, etc), its side effects, and what will happen to Jeremy Ross!<br />
<br />
2. <b>Social Skills</b> - This is a wonderful book to use in social skills groups or lessons. You can discuss how to make a new friend, how to treat other people, and the importance of giving people chances.<br />
<br />
3. <b>Sequencing</b> - You can talk about the steps for making a pie or sequence the events of the narrator's day with Jeremy Ross (ex. first they rode bikes....).<br />
<br />
4. <b>Adjectives</b> - Enemy Pie is delicious! This book is full of descriptive words!<br />
<br />
5. <b>Compare/Contrast</b> - Students can compare the different characters in the story or even compare themselves to the narrator! The narrator didn't like Jeremy Ross, but he found out that they actually had a lot in common!<br />
<br />
6. <b>Craft</b> - You can work on following directions and sequencing as students make their own enemy pies! Check out the pie craft in my <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2018/07/how-to-make-cherry-pie-and-see-usa.html" target="_blank">blog post</a> about <i>How to Make a Cherry Pie and See the U.S.A.</i>! You can make something very similar to go with this book!<br />
<br />
Have you used this book in therapy? What skills did you target?<br />
<br />
Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!<br />

Let's start by talking about some fun and simple crafts! Students will love making these silly ocean creatures!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1vqvnB5fKgc/W2zfk2PZTKI/AAAAAAAAFVg/XSQam8HY3UoydAjmPLmybUNkt0m6intbwCLcBGAs/s1600/oceancrafts.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1vqvnB5fKgc/W2zfk2PZTKI/AAAAAAAAFVg/XSQam8HY3UoydAjmPLmybUNkt0m6intbwCLcBGAs/s320/oceancrafts.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Materials Needed:<br />
- Paper plates<br />
- Bingo Daubers<br />
- Scissors<br />
- Glue<br />
- Construction Paper<br />
- Word Pieces (optional): You can find circle pieces in my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speech-Therapy-Crafts-Mega-Bundle-3343006" target="_blank">Speech Crafts</a> or <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Articulation-Crafts-A-Speech-Therapy-Bundle-3367136" target="_blank">Articulation Crafts Bundles</a>. You can find square pieces in my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Summer-Articulation-Bundle-1343470" target="_blank">Summer Articulation Bundle</a> or in my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Summer-Apraxia-Snip-and-Stick-3093388" target="_blank">Summer: Snip and Stick Apraxia</a> packet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e3YMMx2qqpQ/W2zfzirh9RI/AAAAAAAAFVo/ToCJlt6FnkUsxEYJ280jDypWwrAD-KlwACLcBGAs/s1600/octopuscraft.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e3YMMx2qqpQ/W2zfzirh9RI/AAAAAAAAFVo/ToCJlt6FnkUsxEYJ280jDypWwrAD-KlwACLcBGAs/s320/octopuscraft.png" width="319" /></a></div>
The octopus is super simple! Just have students paint a paper plate by dabbing it with a bingo dauber! This will be a fun reinforcement activity while a student practices! They can also add in word pieces to match their specific sound or skill (ex. category word pieces, verb word pieces, etc). Then students simply glue 8 strips of paper under the plate to make the legs! Optional: Add in white circles for eyes and a rounded piece of construction paper for a smile!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jPOKv_DMfII/W2zgkRjLivI/AAAAAAAAFV4/hFbUQhHGV1QC5tR2TEwSkVTBOiI6X-83ACLcBGAs/s1600/jellyfishcraft.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jPOKv_DMfII/W2zgkRjLivI/AAAAAAAAFV4/hFbUQhHGV1QC5tR2TEwSkVTBOiI6X-83ACLcBGAs/s320/jellyfishcraft.png" width="319" /></a></div>
The jellyfish is my favorite! Start by cutting a paper plate in half and then cover it in word pieces (or just dab him with a bingo dauber), glue strips under the plate, and cut out white circles for the eyes! These crafts require very little prep - you'll just have to gather the materials!<br />
<br />
You can also find some NO PREP ocean crafts in the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/July-Speech-Therapy-Crafts-3884089" target="_blank">July Speech Therapy Crafts</a> packet or in the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speech-Therapy-Crafts-Mega-Bundle-3343006" target="_blank">bundle</a>!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RuaJTcGWdq8/W2zhypISypI/AAAAAAAAFWE/VHYYLrKhfeIFVAzHyrngmRbYnUhul-sEACLcBGAs/s1600/July%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2BCraftscover.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="600" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RuaJTcGWdq8/W2zhypISypI/AAAAAAAAFWE/VHYYLrKhfeIFVAzHyrngmRbYnUhul-sEACLcBGAs/s400/July%2BSpeech%2BTherapy%2BCraftscover.png" width="300" /></a></div>
I also have some more fun ocean themed materials in my TPT store!<br />
<br />
The <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thematic-Interactive-Articulation-Notebooks-Bundle-for-Speech-Therapy-3251965" target="_blank">Thematic Interactive Articulation Notebooks Bundle</a> features an <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ocean-Themed-Interactive-Articulation-Notebook-3798417" target="_blank">ocean themed packet</a>! I love how it turned out! Students will love adding these activities into their notebooks! Let's peek inside:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4xyJNpY8NaA/W2ziXXTNOvI/AAAAAAAAFWM/2DPMuXtnDes-le8orvo_x-UOph9drRiLACLcBGAs/s1600/OceanNotebook.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4xyJNpY8NaA/W2ziXXTNOvI/AAAAAAAAFWM/2DPMuXtnDes-le8orvo_x-UOph9drRiLACLcBGAs/s320/OceanNotebook.png" width="319" /></a></div>
First up, there's an "under the sea" interactive pouch! The pouch looks like the ocean and I also tried to include animals that feature the targeted sound on the pouch (to make each one unique). For instance, /k/ has a shark and /p/ has a pufferfish! Each pouch also comes with a variety of ocean animals that contain the target words too! This is one of my favorite activities!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LAcNQgxVUhk/W2zi8QSey6I/AAAAAAAAFWU/mdc-GdLwIIgd53ud5Iw_-VniTs5I-Tm7wCLcBGAs/s1600/oceanspeechtherapy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LAcNQgxVUhk/W2zi8QSey6I/AAAAAAAAFWU/mdc-GdLwIIgd53ud5Iw_-VniTs5I-Tm7wCLcBGAs/s320/oceanspeechtherapy.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Of course, I had to include some "flap-ups." Under each flap, students can write a phrase or sentence containing their word. If you have students that are not yet writing phrases or sentences, just have them write the word under the flap.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Lh_4wU_l-Y/W2zjWVhI_4I/AAAAAAAAFWc/6Z4u0XLOu7wa7hkAFl9gVzo-APsGcqzmACLcBGAs/s1600/scubaspeechtherapy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Lh_4wU_l-Y/W2zjWVhI_4I/AAAAAAAAFWc/6Z4u0XLOu7wa7hkAFl9gVzo-APsGcqzmACLcBGAs/s320/scubaspeechtherapy.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Scuba Speech! This activity features a boy and a girl scuba diver. Students glue a flap-up book in the middle!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9AhysCsld0M/W2zjiexImAI/AAAAAAAAFWg/WkaGXj4z00A9YolICxqagENEVekxDX3PACLcBGAs/s1600/snorkelspeechtherapy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9AhysCsld0M/W2zjiexImAI/AAAAAAAAFWg/WkaGXj4z00A9YolICxqagENEVekxDX3PACLcBGAs/s320/snorkelspeechtherapy.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Snorkeling for Sentences! Students glue the bubbles around the picture and then they'll lift up the flap to write sentences using the words. Again, younger students can just write the given words under the flap!<br />
<br />
I also have some ocean themed articulation game boards! They can be found in the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/July-Articulation-Game-Boards-1907648" target="_blank">July Articulation Game Boards</a> packet or in the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Articulation-Game-Boards-Bundle-for-Speech-Therapy-1676530" target="_blank">bundle</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ub2d0GeT3Pg/W2zkE2Bpn8I/AAAAAAAAFWs/kdkVxliEY3MphRMgyA0JG6XMrDSvobYcgCLcBGAs/s1600/july%2Bgame%2Bboards.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1102" data-original-width="735" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ub2d0GeT3Pg/W2zkE2Bpn8I/AAAAAAAAFWs/kdkVxliEY3MphRMgyA0JG6XMrDSvobYcgCLcBGAs/s400/july%2Bgame%2Bboards.png" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
My most recent <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2018/07/toys-as-tools-hungry-pelican.html" target="_blank">toys as tools post</a> features an ocean theme too! Check out this <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2018/07/toys-as-tools-hungry-pelican.html" target="_blank">post</a> to read all about how to use The Hungry Pelican to target communication skills!<br />
<br />
Lastly, let's dive into some of my favorite ocean themed books!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UVsce-i9RfA/W2zkbLURF0I/AAAAAAAAFW0/cCO94Eb8kc46bKLprrv863MowYWFXfmSQCLcBGAs/s1600/Oceanpicturebooks.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UVsce-i9RfA/W2zkbLURF0I/AAAAAAAAFW0/cCO94Eb8kc46bKLprrv863MowYWFXfmSQCLcBGAs/s320/Oceanpicturebooks.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2OqWP1N" target="_blank">A House for Hermit Crab</a> by Eric Carle<br />
This is truly one of my favorite stories! I know I say this often, but seriously... this is definitely a top 15 picture book for me! A little hermit crab finds a new shell, but it's a little plain. As he ventures though the ocean, he invites a variety of creatures to live on his shell (a snail, starfish, etc). Throughout the year, they all become friends.... but one day, he notices that his shell is too snug and has to say goodbye. It has such a hopeful ending, as he passes on his shell and his friends to another little crab and finds himself a new shell (that's a little plain). There are sooo many language goals you can target:<br />
1) Time Concepts<br />
2) Ocean Vocabulary<br />
3) Describing<br />
4) Synonyms<br />
5) Inferencing<br />
..... this list can go on and on! It's such a fantastic book to use in speech-language therapy! If you can only have one ocean themed book, this is the one.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2nnfDUq" target="_blank">There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell</a> by Lucille Colandro<br />
You gotta love the old lady and her crazy antics! In this story, she's hanging out by the ocean! I love the repetitive nature of this book - it's great for students who have trouble with comprehension. You can use this book to target:<br />
1) Sequencing<br />
2) Absurdities<br />
3) Why questions<br />
<br />
I also made a book companion for this a few years ago! You can find it <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/There-Was-an-Old-Lady-Who-Swallowed-a-Shell-Speech-and-Language-Companion-1199451" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2M50i9I" target="_blank">Gilbert the Great</a> by Jane Clarke<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rSKdyp1hw-Y/W2zmtst7v_I/AAAAAAAAFXA/143Y11KRe2AV1tQPo-zgEp4ck5dF_CnWgCLcBGAs/s1600/gilbertthegreat.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rSKdyp1hw-Y/W2zmtst7v_I/AAAAAAAAFXA/143Y11KRe2AV1tQPo-zgEp4ck5dF_CnWgCLcBGAs/s320/gilbertthegreat.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Gilbert is a friendly great white shark! His best friend is a remora named Raymond. When Raymond's family moves away, Gilbert is crushed. He's sad and lonely until he meets a new remora named Rita! Rita's also sad, because she recently moved and doesn't have any friends. This is such a cute story about friendship and dealing with sadness. You can use this book to target:<br />
1) Emotions<br />
2) Social Skills<br />
3) Articulation - /r/, /g/, /r/ blends<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2KJ9CdT" target="_blank">Clark the Shark</a> by Bruce Hale<br />
Clark is a super energetic shark! He's rambunctious, loud, and he likes to play rough. Does he sound familiar? I think we all have some Clarks in our classrooms. :) He has a very patient teacher who reminds him to "stay cool." Clark loves school! This is such a great book to target:<br />
1) Social Skills<br />
2) Articulation - /l/ blends and /sh/<br />
3) WH Questions<br />
<br />
I also have a flip book companion for Clark in <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/July-Flipping-for-Literature-2604715" target="_blank">July's Flipping for Literature</a> packet! And if you're interested in more shark books, check out this <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2018/07/shark-picture-books-for-speech-therapy.html" target="_blank">round-up</a>!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2Oqvahw" target="_blank">Down to Sea with Mr. Magee</a> by Chris Van Dusen<br />
I love Mr. Magee! One of my favorite book companions is for <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/A-Camping-Spree-with-Mr-Magee-Book-Companion-1321906" target="_blank">A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee</a>! In this book, Mr. Magee and Dee (his dog) go to the sea! Of course, they find themselves in some trouble! haha! This book is great to work on:<br />
1) Rhyming<br />
2) Comparing/Contrasting - There are so many similarities to <i>A Camping Spree</i>! Students will love comparing/contrasting Mr. Magee and Dee's adventures!<br />
3) Sequencing<br />
<br />
What are your favorite ocean themed books? There are so many good ones out there!<br />
<br />
Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!<br />

I love integrating literature into therapy - books truly are a treasure trove of language! Let's talk about some great back to school books - I've been rounding up the books featured in my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Literature-Flip-Books-Bundle-2480206" target="_blank">Flipping for Literature</a> series so let's hop into the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/August-Flipping-for-Literature-2676941" target="_blank">August</a> edition!<br />

There are so many great back to school books! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/2mZ2H6R" target="_blank">The Kissing Hand</a> by Audrey Penn</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-loE_pIGPODc/W2DI8qEXdcI/AAAAAAAAFTU/CWq3tjwSd3cax3GGV96QYzMiTSibcgNqwCLcBGAs/s1600/TheKissinHandFlip.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-loE_pIGPODc/W2DI8qEXdcI/AAAAAAAAFTU/CWq3tjwSd3cax3GGV96QYzMiTSibcgNqwCLcBGAs/s320/TheKissinHandFlip.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is a classic and one of my favorite books to read in the speech room! Chester Raccoon is nervous about starting school and his mother teaches him about the kissing hand. It's darling! It's a great book to work on making text-to-self connections, because many students can relate to Chester! Students can also compare their school with Chester's school! You can also have a great discussion about nocturnal animals! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/2v44oVb" target="_blank">Chrysanthemum</a> by Kevin Henkes</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-efRp5VtX1S0/W2DKut3gKRI/AAAAAAAAFTg/A_xm8YgRmSQbKjJfk9Qt1CR3pFYDN5dqQCLcBGAs/s1600/Chrysanthemumflip.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-efRp5VtX1S0/W2DKut3gKRI/AAAAAAAAFTg/A_xm8YgRmSQbKjJfk9Qt1CR3pFYDN5dqQCLcBGAs/s320/Chrysanthemumflip.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Another classic back to school read! I just love Chrysanthemum! She loves her name.... until she starts school and other students start to pick on her. It's a wonderful story about loving yourself and appreciating differences! This is a great story to practice using adjectives and descriptive language - Chrysanthemum parents tell her that she's precious, fascinating, and winsome! </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/2LIEXCL" target="_blank">The Day the Crayons Quit</a> by Drew Daywalt</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Duncan's crayons are fed-up! They feel used and under appreciated so they decide to quit! They send Duncan a series of letters filled with grievances - this book is seriously witty! If you're a classroom teacher this is a fun book to incorporate into a letter writing unit! The author truly brings each crayon to life and your students will love their personalities! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I found some <a href="https://amzn.to/2v4nytY" target="_blank">finger puppets</a> to accompany the book! They're great for retelling and reenactments! This book is great for back to school or year round!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
This book is a great way to set the tone for a new school year and to teach kids to be "bucket fillers" and not "bucket dippers." You can use this book to tackle figurative language and social skills!<br />
<br />
Grab some dollar spot buckets and create an interactive activity! Students can write down examples of bucket fillers and bucket dippers on scraps of paper and sort them!<br />

This story touches my SLP soul! Every speech-language pathologist needs a copy! It's about a little rat with an articulation problem - he can't say /r/! Articulation students ADORE this story! Rodney is teased by the school bully - Camilla Capybara. He outsmarts her in a game of simon says and becomes a hero! Oooh, it's such a precious story! It's a great way to teach about kindness and accepting others. Use this book to target social skills, articulation, comparing/contrasting, and more!<br />

I hope you're having a wonderful summer! I'm stopping in today for a new edition of toys as tools! This year, I started a blog series all about how to use toys to enhance speech and language skills. Toys are such powerful tools! They're motivating, engaging, and fun!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cSVHaw6A1GE/W1E1YUIAbPI/AAAAAAAAFSU/LBMzlWsRWI8vymKadqBBm0sVvXlwzYCwQCLcBGAs/s1600/HungryPelican.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cSVHaw6A1GE/W1E1YUIAbPI/AAAAAAAAFSU/LBMzlWsRWI8vymKadqBBm0sVvXlwzYCwQCLcBGAs/s320/HungryPelican.png" width="319" /></a></div>

<br />
Today's toy is in honor of summer! The <a href="https://amzn.to/2uBVtKj" target="_blank">Hungry Pelican</a> is a delightful and interactive toy. He comes with a variety of plush ocean animals - a crab, octopus, fish, and a shrimp. You can open up his bill and feed him! His tummy is open, so you can easily retrieve whatever goes inside!<br />
<br />
First, students love to "feed" things! Back in the day, my supervisor had a tiny garbage can that students would "feed." haha... Seriously, kids love it! This is truly a fun toy, because you can pretty much feed the pelican anything! There are so many communication skills you can address with this toy!<br />
<br />
1) Vocabulary - Students can learn various ocean animals (crab, shrimp, octopus, etc). Since it's a field of four, you can easily access if a student can differentiate between a crab and a fish! You can also feed the pelican other things that relate to vocabulary too - such as toy foods or flash cards! For instance, if a student can name a synonym they can feed the flash card to the pelican!<br />
<br />
2) Prepositions - You can work on inside/outside. For example, the crab is inside the pelican and the octopus is outside the pelican. You can also practice placing the pelican's friends (or snacks haha!) next to him, behind him, in front of him, etc!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PUQSOcvAph8/W1E4cox8WEI/AAAAAAAAFSg/6IYV9eSWLOURcpLNI4Qx9FAGm_YfQLp4ACLcBGAs/s1600/HungryPelicanToys.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PUQSOcvAph8/W1E4cox8WEI/AAAAAAAAFSg/6IYV9eSWLOURcpLNI4Qx9FAGm_YfQLp4ACLcBGAs/s320/HungryPelicanToys.png" width="319" /></a></div>
3) Directions - This is such a fun toy to practice multistep directions. For example: Before you feed the pelican the crab, give me the fish.<br />
<br />
4) Articulation - This is a fun toy for reinforcement! Students can practice a word and then feed the pelican their flash card or object!<br />
<br />
5) Requesting - Students can work on requesting which animal or object they would like to feed the pelican. This is also a great toy to work on "more." The pelican wants more food.<br />
<br />
6) Opposites - You can work on open/close. Have students open his bill and then close his bill. Hungry/full or full/empty... when his tummy is empty he's hungry and when it's full... well, he's full. lol. You can also talk about big/little. The pelican is big, but the crab is little.<br />
<br />
7) Verbs - Students can make the pelican eat or fly. They can make the crab crawl, the fish swim, etc. This is a fun toy for kids to work on actions!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QyiuiiIVW-w/W1E6U8NiPII/AAAAAAAAFSs/3FtjCRf9Bm8DA5b56YltUhvKUtObRBCdwCLcBGAs/s1600/HungryPelicanToy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QyiuiiIVW-w/W1E6U8NiPII/AAAAAAAAFSs/3FtjCRf9Bm8DA5b56YltUhvKUtObRBCdwCLcBGAs/s320/HungryPelicanToy.png" width="319" /></a></div>
8) Describing - You can place a variety of objects on the table for students to describe. After they describe the object, they can feed the pelican. You can also make this more simple and work on two-word phrases with an adjective (ex. "hungry pelican," "red crab," "little fish," etc). You can also play a headband-esque game. Turn the pelican around and one student describes what's in the pelican's belly and the other tries to figure it out!<br />
<br />
9) Compare/Contrast - Students can compare/contrast all of the ocean animals! They can also compare themselves to the pelican. For instance, "the pelican is a bird and I'm a human... but we both like fish!" I know I have something in common with the pelican.... we're both always hungry! haha<br />
<br />
10) WH Questions - You can place the pelican around the room and ask where he is. You can also work on what questions, why questions (ex. why did the pelican eat the crab?), etc.<br />
<br />
Do you have a <a href="https://amzn.to/2uBVtKj" target="_blank">Hungry Pelican</a>? How do you use him in speech-language therapy?<br />
<br />
Thank you for stopping by! I have more Toys as Tools posts coming your way! Have a great day!<br />

Stories truly bring therapy to life. I've created tons of book companions over the years and my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Literature-Flip-Books-Bundle-2480206" target="_blank">literature flip books series</a> is my favorite!<br />
<br />
I know it's July, but I decided to go ahead and share the books that are featured in June! These books can truly be used all year long. I've read Edward the Emu in December one year! Sometimes, you just gotta grab the closet book available. haha!<br />

<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/June-Flipping-for-Literature-2560700" target="_blank">June's Flipping for Literature</a> packet contains some of my all-time favorite books! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/2u0yqsf" target="_blank">The Gruffalo</a> by Julia Donaldson</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is hands-down my favorite book! A little mouse walks through the forest and tricks all of his predators! He makes up a fictional monster to scare them away..... except the Gruffalo is actually real! The story takes a marvelous turn and the mouse has to use his wits to escape! This book is perfect for retelling and sequencing, inferencing, and so so much more! If you snag this book for your therapy room, also pick up <a href="https://amzn.to/2IZELJ6" target="_blank">The Gruffalo's Child</a>. It's precious! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JYFHUR_GaWk/Wz9zXB4rdCI/AAAAAAAAFRA/CLdG3OupB38pw7X4xcyEpUo6knHRF3XGACLcBGAs/s1600/TheGruffalo.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JYFHUR_GaWk/Wz9zXB4rdCI/AAAAAAAAFRA/CLdG3OupB38pw7X4xcyEpUo6knHRF3XGACLcBGAs/s320/TheGruffalo.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/2zfzxt1" target="_blank">Edward the Emu</a> by Sheena Knowles </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is also one of my all-time favorite books! Edward is super bored! Nobody visits his exhibit at the zoo. He would much prefer to be a seal or a lion! He escapes his enclosure and stops by a variety of exhibits. He loves pretending to be other animals..... but ultimately, he realizes that he'd rather be himself. It has a beautiful message! This book is also wonderful for sequencing and retelling! There is also a fun sequel called <a href="https://amzn.to/2tZlxP8" target="_blank">Edwina the Emu</a>! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Zw5g9OWx5Q/Wz90PwC5fMI/AAAAAAAAFRM/h6ASN7RlPpMiF5BHFJ2y8A4Q7KV_NXiggCLcBGAs/s1600/EdwardEmuFlipBook.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Zw5g9OWx5Q/Wz90PwC5fMI/AAAAAAAAFRM/h6ASN7RlPpMiF5BHFJ2y8A4Q7KV_NXiggCLcBGAs/s320/EdwardEmuFlipBook.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I love this book so much that I even made a traditional book companion for it too! You can find it in my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Edward-the-Emu-Speech-and-Language-Companion-1251813" target="_blank">Teachers Pay Teachers store</a>. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/2tYhYsy" target="_blank">A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee</a> by Chris Van Dusen</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is a must-have for a camping theme! It's hands-down the best camping book I've read. It's funny, witty, and downright enjoyable. It's great for working on rhyming, WH questions, and more! Somehow, someway.. I managed to lose my sample of this flip book. I'm sorry... It's summer and I can't even remember what day of the week it is. haha! #summerbrain </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also made a <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/A-Camping-Spree-with-Mr-Magee-Book-Companion-1321906" target="_blank">traditional book companion</a> for this book too! What can I say... when I love a book, I can't get enough activities for it! haha </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/2J3Azbg" target="_blank">Smiley Shark</a> by Ruth Galloway</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you've been reading my blog lately, you know I featured this book in my <a href="http://speechissweet.blogspot.com/2018/07/shark-picture-books-for-speech-therapy.html" target="_blank">Shark Book Round-Up</a>! Smiley Shark is such a precious story! He's friendly and loves to smile, but he's completely misunderstood! When the other fish see him smile, they swim away in terror. haha! He starts to get lonely and is heartbroken when he finds out the other fish are afraid of him. One day, the other creatures get stuck in a net and Smiley Shark saves the day! </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
First up, let's talk about some fun fish themed toys! I love using toys during therapy, because they're so motivating. Toys are the tools of children and they truly bring therapy to life! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I found this cute felt fishbowl at the Target Dollar Spot!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wEm9Dnku8X8/Wz6d8l7D7rI/AAAAAAAAFPQ/qYxxHS6FM0QKGJ4ba7G1-h5DQCPIheD3gCLcBGAs/s1600/FeltFishBowl.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wEm9Dnku8X8/Wz6d8l7D7rI/AAAAAAAAFPQ/qYxxHS6FM0QKGJ4ba7G1-h5DQCPIheD3gCLcBGAs/s320/FeltFishBowl.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is such a simple and cheap toy! There are so many ways you can incorporate this into therapy!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. Flip the fish upside down and have a student select a fish. Whatever number is on the fish is the number of times they have to practice their word or the number of sentences they have to make containing their word! When they're finished, they get to put the fish in the bowl! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. Students can take turns describing the fish. If their partner can identify the correct fish they get to keep it! Whoever collects the most fish wins! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. You can talk about basic concepts (big fish vs. little fish, inside/outside, in/out, etc) </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also found an amazing toy at Aldi for only 10 bucks! It's called the <a href="https://amzn.to/2KJs2iP" target="_blank">Color Fun Fishbowl</a> by Learning Resources! I've also seen them at Cracker Barrel. Random, I know! haha!</div>

<a href="https://amzn.to/2KTe91H" target="_blank">The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School</a> by Deborah Diesen<br />
You gotta love the Pout-Pout Fish! The <a href="https://amzn.to/2KTwF6O" target="_blank">original book</a> is seriously the cutest and this sequel is perfect for back to school or year round. It follows a repetitive pattern, which is perfect for language therapy. Pout-Pout goes to school for the first time and he gets very discouraged. He has trouble writing, drawing, and doing math. He is about to give up until he meets his teacher and finds all of the other new fish. You can use this book to address:<br />
1. Growth Mindset - It's so important to instill a growth mindset into our students. This truly is a precious book with a wonderful message!<br />
2. Rhyming<br />
3. Predictions<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2KSK964" target="_blank">The Rainbow Fish</a> by Marcus Pfister<br />
This classic is a must-have! Rainbow Fish is beautiful and everyone admires his sparkly scales... but he doesn't want to share them. He becomes lonely and a wise old octopus tells him he will only become happy when he gives his scales away. You can use this book to address:<br />
1. Social Skills<br />
2. Problem/Solution<br />
3. Sequencing<br />
<br />
You can also make a fun craft companion! You just need bingo daubers or word pieces (found in my no prep <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Articulation-Crafts-A-Growing-Bundle-3367136" target="_blank">articulation crafts bundle</a> or <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speech-Therapy-Crafts-Mega-Bundle-3343006" target="_blank">speech therapy crafts bundle</a>), glue, paper plates, and aluminum foil.<br />

<a href="https://amzn.to/2tZfMkp" target="_blank">The Copycat Fish</a> by Marcus Pfister<br />
This is an adorable Rainbow Fish book that I found at Goodwill years ago! A little fish in Rainbow's class just adores him and copies everything that he does. This irks Rainbow and he's not very nice to the little fish. By the end of the story, he realizes that the little fish just looks up to him and they become friends! You can use this book to address:<br />
1. Social Skills - Explain why it's important to be ourselves and not copy others. Also, you can talk about how to make new friends.<br />
2. Sequencing<br />
3. Character Development - Rainbow Fish changes throughout the story. He becomes more understanding!<br />
<br />
*It looks like The Copycat Fish may be out of print. Keep your eye open at yard sales or Goodwill!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://amzn.to/2zgwwZy" target="_blank">Swimmy</a> by Leo Lionni<br />
I love this classic story! It's so sweet! Swimmy is the fastest fish in his school. One day, a big fish comes and swallows everyone except for him. He is sad and lonely. As he travels across the ocean, he meets tons of marvelous creatures and his happiness returns. He eventually meets another school just like his own, but they're scared to venture out into the ocean! He teaches them how to swim together like a giant fish so they can be safe! It's such an endearing story. A true must-have.<br />
1. Problem/Solution<br />
2. Ocean Vocabulary - Swimmy meets a jellyfish, lobster, etc<br />
3. Describing<br />

<a href="https://amzn.to/2tXfWsv" target="_blank">Fidgety Fish</a> by Ruth Galloway<br />
Tiddler is a fidgety fish! He has so much energy (just like many students)! haha! His mom sends him outside so that he can play and get his wiggles out, but she warns him of the Big Fish. He darts all over the ocean and lo and behold... he ends up in the Big Fish's belly! His extra energy saves the day though. He wiggles so much that he gives the Big Fish a bellyache and he burps him back out. haha... It's very silly and cute. You can address:<br />
1. Adjectives - fidgety, big, wiggly, etc<br />
2. Verbs - Tiddler flips, dives, swims, fidgets, etc<br />
3. Problem/Solution<br />

Ideas and Craft!Happy Independence Day! Today is the perfect time to share one of my favorite books about the United States of America!<br />

<a href="https://amzn.to/2Kx0mhN" target="_blank">How to Make a Cherry Pie and See the U.S.A.</a> by Marjorie Priceman is an absolute gem! A little girl describes how to make a cherry pie as she travels across America (it's July 4th and the cook shop is closed). It's a fun sequel to <a href="https://amzn.to/2MKBI9V" target="_blank">How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World</a>!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The narrator makes a rolling pin in Washington and grabs some cotton in Louisiana to make an oven mitt! She ventures down the Mississippi and rappels down mountains in New Hampshire. It's such a fun adventure and it's also perfect for social studies/geography lessons! You can use this book to address a variety of speech and language goals! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. Where Questions - This is a fun opportunity to talk about all the places the narrator visits and ask where questions! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. Sequencing - Talk about the steps for making a cherry pie! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. Verbs - She rappels, saws, picks, and does a variety of activities across the United States! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
4. Inferencing - Discuss what you think she's going to make with the things that she collects. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
5. Describing - The illustrations are outstanding! Students can describe the things you can find in each state! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also found an adorable felt pie in the Target Dollar Spot. It's the perfect toy companion for this book! It came with blueberries and strawberries, so I bought some plain <a href="https://amzn.to/2z4Yac1" target="_blank">red pom-poms</a> to represent cherries! If you can't find this toy at Target, grab some mini pie pans at the grocery store! Students will love filling up the pie pan as they answer questions about the book!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This book also inspired me to make a cherry pie craft! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mmPecGrmaWg/WzwPzZiji0I/AAAAAAAAFOs/hkR48NzJuKIH9mqpGOL3gOSBCouY5wuDwCLcBGAs/s1600/CherryPieCraft.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1126" data-original-width="1125" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mmPecGrmaWg/WzwPzZiji0I/AAAAAAAAFOs/hkR48NzJuKIH9mqpGOL3gOSBCouY5wuDwCLcBGAs/s320/CherryPieCraft.png" width="319" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is super simple! You just need paper plates, red bingo daubers or circular word pieces (found in my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Articulation-Crafts-A-Growing-Bundle-3367136" target="_blank">articulation crafts bundle</a> or <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speech-Therapy-Crafts-Mega-Bundle-3343006" target="_blank">speech therapy crafts bundle</a>), and brown construction paper. This is the perfect craft for students who are working on /ch/ or /r/, but it can be used with any sound or language goal! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
First, students dab the paper plate with a red bingo dauber. This will make circles that look like cherries! They can also cut out and glue some word pieces onto their plate! Then they cut some strips from the brown construction paper to make the pie crust. They'll glue 4-5 strips down on the plate and then glue 3-4 more strips down in the other direction. Easy peasy! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Thank you for stopping by! Enjoy your day!</div>
