Yeti Theme in Speech Therapy!

I'm so excited to introduce a new blog series - Theme Thursdays! I love using themes in therapy! They're such a fun way to build speech and language skills. I'll be stopping in at least one Thursday every month to share ideas, resources, crafts, books, and more that go along with a fun theme!

Today, it's all about Yetis! This is actually a new theme for me and I'm really excited about it!

First, I want to share my newest game - Yeti in My Spaghetti! This is a major steal on Amazon right now! It's nearly 50% off (as of January 18th). I'm so excited to have a new game for my collection!

You get 30 noodles that you arrange around the bowl and then you place Yeti on top! The object of the game is to remove the noodles without allowing Yeti to fall into the bowl! If the Yeti falls then the game is over (and then you can play again!). This game is perfect for reinforcement. Kids will be so excited when it's their turn!

He's so cute! I think Yeti is my new favorite winter creature! Here's a peek inside the packet:

These bad boys can be used with bingo daubers, used as coloring sheets, or as play dough smash mats! This pairs perfectly with the game! After a student practices a word on their sheet, then they can remove a noodle from the bowl! This also gives them something tangible to do between turns so that they are actively engaged throughout the session.

Students can color and decorate their sheet during one session and then in a second session they can use their sheet as a play dough smash mat! I love when I can plan once and it covers multiple sessions!

I've tried numerous times over the years (before finally learning my lesson haha) that play dough sticks to paper. Yeah, I know.. #fail! haha.. I came up with a simple solution though. Slip the articulation printable into a (aff. link) dry erase sleeve! Nothing sticks! I found the one pictured in the clearance section of Michael's, but this brand on Amazon looks great!

Dear Yeti by James Kwan
Two hikers write a series of letters to a yeti! I just love how this book is set up! If you're a classroom teacher that is working on letter writing then this is a must-have! This is also a wonderful story about friendship and kindness. After reading all of the hikers' letters, the yeti feels as if they're his friends. He secretly helps them along their journey and finally reveals himself when they're in dire need of help! This would be a great book to work on social skills, sequencing, and more!

No Yeti Yet by Mary Ann Fraser
This is such a clever book and I adore the illustrations! Two siblings go on a yeti hunt! On every page the yeti is hiding, but the kids never see him! This is a great book for describing! The older brother has to describe what a yeti looks like so his little brother will know if he sees one! It has a fun surprise ending too.

The Thing About Yetis by Vin Vogel
This book is absolutely ADORABLE! Did you know that Yetis get cold too and sometimes they miss summer? So cute! This would be a great book to use to compare/contrast activities. You can talk about what Yetis do in the winter and what they do in the summer!

Bedtime For Yeti by Vin Vogel
This is an adorable sequel to The Thing About Yetis by Vin Vogel. Little Yeti loses his stuffed yeti and when bedtime comes he's scared without his friend! This is a great book to target a variety of goals. For instance, you can talk about different types of emotions/feelings. Yeti experiences a wide array of feelings throughout the story. He's happy, he's worried, he's scared, he's brave, etc! Students can also compare themselves to the Yeti!
