A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee

I'm super excited about this week's Wild About Books Wednesday! I received a request to make a book companion for A Camping Spree With Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen and I was happy to oblige! I love book companions and I really needed a good one to use for my Speech Camp theme.
You can find this book companion in my Teachers Pay Teachers store by clicking HERE.

First, if you have never gone on an adventure with Mr. Magee.. you have to immediately. There's a whole series dedicated to his crazy escapades! Recently, I recommended Camping Spree in my National Camping Week post. It's a must for any speech room!

Here's a peek into the book companion:

Comprehension. There are 18 comprehension cards and 6 special cards that are designed to assess student comprehension in a fun way! Students draw a card and answer the question. If students "save the camper" they get an extra turn!
Riddles. Riddles are a fun, fantastic way to assess receptive vocabulary skills. I found some crazy campers on Etsy that were perfect for this card game! Student draws a card, SLP reads the riddle, and the student has to figure out what's inside the camper! Watch out for bears!
Pronouns. I work with K-2 so I always have a hand full of little ones who are struggling with pronouns. In this cute game a student draws a card and fills in the blank with the correct pronoun. If they are correct they get to keep the card. Student with the most cards wins. This game includes 18 pronoun cards, 6 special cards, and two mini posters to display for visual cues!
Rhyming. This book is saturated with hilarious rhymes! I designed a "Build a S'more" game as a unique way to practice rhyming. You simply scatter all of the s'more pieces around a fake "camp fire," on the floor, or on a table... whatever you prefer! Your students then hunt to find enough rhyming words to make a s'more. There are 30 pieces. Each set is color-coded making it self-checking for students.
Okay, confession.. I still have a mountain of laminated materials to cut out from the end of the school year! I really don't mind materials that require preparation, because they're so cute! But sometimes.. ain't nobody got time for that. Lately, I'm all about NO PREP materials. So, from this point forward all of my book companions will include a variety of print n' go activities. Here's a couple included in this book companion:
This companion also contains two articulation activities for /k/ and /f/.

Have you used this book in your therapy sessions? Please let me know if you have any other ideas.

Also, if you're a blogger and would like to share your book ideas please consider linking up! Just use the graphic below to link back to me.
Have a wonderful Wednesday! Thanks for stopping by the blog!
