Click, Clack, Boo: A Tricky Treat!

Happy Fall Ya'll! I love the crisp in the morning air, pumpkin spiced crullers, colorful leaves, festivals, and Halloween! Seriously, I love everything about fall so brace yourselves for a series of Fall and Halloween themed Wild About Books Wednesdays! If you're a blogger, I'd love if you would join in on the fun! The cows, ducks, and Farmer Brown are at it again! This time it's Halloween and Farmer Brown wants no part of it! Costumes scare him and the thought of vampires and goblins gives him nightmares! The animals, however, LOVE Halloween! They throw a big shindig in the barn, complete with a best costume contest! In a witty turn of events, Farmer Brown finds himself at the party in his pajamas and wins! It's a cute book and a must, especially if you've read Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type to your students. I think you guys know that I adore Doreen Cronin! This is the third or fourth time I've featured one of her books. haha

The possibilities are endless! Here are just a handful of ideas:

1) Inferencing: There are so many inferential questions that can be asked, such as "Who knocked on Farmer Brown's door?" or "Which animal do you think might win the most candy eaten prize?"

2) Executive Functioning: Students can plan their own Halloween parties!

3) Describing: Students can describe all the costumes at the party, farm animals, or Farmer Brown!

4) Categories: Students can sort scary costumes with non-scary costumes! After costumes are sorted, lead a discussion about which ones Farmer Brown would like or not like based upon what we know about him.
