There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books

Wow, I feel like I haven't blogged in forever! I definitely have missed Wild About Books Wednesday during my hiatus. School started and I was also moving into my new house. Life has been, for lack of a better word, cray cray. Luckily, I now have internet access and balance has been restored in the universe! haha

This week I want to share my latest book companion for Lucy Colandro's There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books.

You can find this companion in my TPT store by clicking HERE. This is a fantastic book for the beginning of the school year! My students love the old lady and I just couldn't resist making a companion to meet their needs. I already have this prepped and ready to go for this week!

I work with K-2 and I use this book for all grade levels! So I created a book companion that covered a wide range of goals to meet everyone's needs. Check it out:

Sequencing: Two sequencing activities are included! The more opportunities a student has to retell a story, they better! Students can feed granny while retelling the story using the picture cards or they can use the storytelling map! Just cut out picture tiles for students to place on the map. 

Comprehension: Students draw a card and answer the WH question!

Temporal Directions: I have so many students who struggle with temporal concepts! Card games are always super motivating - especially when they are granny themed! Students just draw a card and follow the direction. If they follow correctly, they get to keep the card. If they draw granny, she will eat their cards! Student with the most cards wins. 

Granny Bingo: There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rhyme! This book is bursting with silly rhymes that students will love, making it a great book to address rhyming. Three different bingo boards are included!

 

Prepositions: I always have a handful of kindergarteners who come in with preposition goals! This little game is for them. It's called "Put a Pen On It!" Provide each student with a pencil case and then they must place the pens around the pencil case according to the preposition. 

Articulation: NO PREP activities that feature initial and final /k/ and /g/. 

Grammar: NO PREP pages for irregular plurals and irregular past tense.
