A Slice of Speech (November 3, 2014)

My Sundays usually consist of lesson planning and football! I'm back with another edition of A Slice of Speech - a weekly blog series in which I share my visual lesson plans for the upcoming week! I love visual plans - they really get me excited about therapy! They're also super convenient, if you download them just click on any picture to discover where to find the products I'm using!

Before diving into Thanksgiving-themed therapy, I want to spend a week with one of my favorite books! Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles is a cute little story about discovering yourself. It's also perfect to incorporate into a zoo theme or to expose children to zoo vocabulary.

To target language goals, I'm using my Edward the Emu book companion. Expressively, we will work on retelling stories with complete sentences and describing! I'm super excited, because I recently received an Expanding Expression Tool to use in therapy! I shared my excitement on Instagram! Seriously, it felt like Christmas!

My book companion includes a rhyming card game with cute little zoo animals. I won't be targeting rhyming this week, but will be using those same cards for describing! We will also be working on "he" and "she" with Edward and Edwina! Receptively, we will be following the Zookeeper's directions and answering WH questions about the book!

My articulation groups will be taking The Peachie Speechie's Pumpkin Challenge! You'll see a lot of her challenges on my lesson plans, because they're fun and time saving! While students wait for their turn to participate they are busy coloring 100 items! I love print n' go activities that keep students engaged! I have some students who are meticulous about their coloring, so they will spend two sessions coloring their challenge (and they complete the challenge twice!). For students who don't require two days to color, they will spend their second session doing a Fall-themed Color, Cut, and Glue activity!

My little stuttering group will be reviewing stuttering facts and working on easy onsets!
