The Night Before St. Patrick's Day! (Plus Freebies)

Hello! Welcome to Wild About Books Wednesday! If you're new around here, on the first and third Wednesday of every month I pop in to blog about how to use a specific book to enhance speech and/or language skills! Books are a springboard for language and I use them in my therapy ALL the time! I adore books and hope to share my love for reading with all of my students!

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, so I thought I'd help you get a head start on some planning! Today, I'm talking about (aff. link) The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing. I adore this little book series and just recently read The Night Before Valentine's Day just last week!
I've mentioned this many times in previous posts, but if this is your first time visiting my blog I want to share that I LOVE using book series in language therapy. Book series can help children build background knowledge, whether it is by getting students familiar with a set of characters or a story sequence. All of Natasha Wing's books all follow a general sequence that your students can become familiar with if you use this series in your therapy!

There are many ways you can use this little book:

1) You can target phonological awareness skills by working on rhyming. Students can identify the words that rhyme on each page.
2) WH Questions - I created another little "A Dab of Comprehension" page that you can print out to accompany this book!
3) You can target sequencing or giving directions. The characters in this book build a trap to catch a leprechaun. Students can write a how-to piece on how to catch a leprechaun! I made a little graphic organizer for students to gather their thoughts!
4) Describing - the book describes the leprechaun and students can work on building upon that description! You can use an Expanding Expression Tool or your own visuals to help students provide as many details as possible! I also made another little fun freebie to reinforce this task!
If you're interested in using these freebies just click HERE. I hope these sheets will be useful for you and fun for your students!

If you're looking for more St. Patricks' Day materials, you can find some in my TPT store by clicking HERE. I have a few more resources that are scheduled to be released next week too! So keep your eye out! I typically offer all new materials for 40-50% off for the first 48 hours.

*This post contains an Amazon Affiliate link. I would never recommend a book that I didn't love!*

I hope you have a wonderful Wild About Books Wednesday! Thank you for visiting!
