August Interactive Language Notebook

Interactive notebooks are meaningful, engaging, and fun! They truly take learning to another level. They're the ultimate learning tool, as students can use them for reinforcement, review, and can refer to them time and time again!

I created my interactive language notebooks during the 2016-2017 school year and I just realized that I have never blogged about them! I decided to do a blog series to create a visual library and reference for all of my language (and articulation) notebooks! First, my monthly language notebooks cover the common core language standards for grades K-2 (except they don't cover punctuation).

Let's peek inside the August notebook! Note.... this is a small sampling! Altogether, there are 39 activities included.

First up, a glimpse of the grammar pages:

There is a pronoun sort for he, she, and they! 

There is a past/present verb sort! Under each flap, students will glue the verbs:

Let's be honest.... grammar can be a little boring, but these hands-on activities make working on these skills memorable and engaging!

Clearly, I love using sorts! haha.. These also come with visual word pieces that show singular and plural nouns.

You can make this activity more difficulty by having students generate and write the words themselves.

Subject-verb agreement with is and are! Students just lift up each flap and write in the missing word!

You can also find regular plural flap-ups! Students just lift the flap and write the word in plural form:

On to some of the vocabulary activities! This packet addresses categories, synonyms, antonyms, and multiple meaning words! 

Students love interactive pouches! This is such a great activity, because it can be revisited time and time again! Whenever students want/need some more practice, they can just take out their puzzle pieces!

These double flaps are fun! Underneath each picture, students can write the two meanings for each word.

Now on to some miscellaneous skills! This packet also addresses comparing/contrasting, sequencing, describing, and WH Questions.

Just lift up each flap to write the similarities and differences!

This is a great review on how to answer each WH question. For example: You answer when questions with a time!

There are also flap-ups for each type of WH question. This is an example of the where page! Students just lift up each flap and write/draw their answer!

Here's one last peek! These are the describing accordions. Underneath each section, students will write their answer. For instance, underneath "what group does it belong to?" students will write "furniture" for the desk.
