Jessica by Kevin Henkes (Plus Freebie!)

Remember, last week I told you I loved Kevin Henkes? Well, I wasn't lyin'! I'm talking about another one of his books today haha.. I also have some free goodies to share that can be used with this book.

Jessica: Can your best friend be imaginary? may be my FAVORITE Kevin Henkes book!

This book is about a lonely little girl named Ruthie-Ann. She has no pets, friends, or siblings... so like any great problem solver she creates an imaginary friend! Jessica is awesome. They go to the moon together, they eat together, and are completely inseparable! Before the first day of kindergarten, Ruthie-Ann's parents ask that she keep Jessica home....but of course, she takes Jessica to school anyways! At the end of the book something unexpected happens during a routine bathroom break - she meets a real girl named Jessica! It's a beautiful story about friendship and is perfect for the first day of school or any time of year!

This book can target many different skills: sequencing, inferencing, social skills, /j/, and much more! I made a few worksheets that can accompany this book! They are very versatile so they can be used in therapy or a regular education classroom!

Sequencing: I love this book for sequencing events! Students can write or draw pictures to show the sequence of the story.

Describing: Students can create their own imaginary friend and describe them!

Social Skills: Discuss qualities that make a good friend.
