Let's Talk About Books Linky! (The Gruffalo's Child)

One of my favorite books is The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. You can check out my post about how to make a Gruffalo story stick by clicking HERE.

Today I'm talking about the equally as awesome sequel - The Gruffalo's Child. It features the same stars - snake, owl, fox, and mouse.

The Gruffalo tells his daughter a story about his frightening encounter with the Big Bad Mouse many years ago. Of course, gruffalos do not have the best memories.

Despite her initial fears, when her father falls asleep she decides to find this Big Bad Mouse. She was feeling bored so she trekked off into the snow.

Just as her father did many years before... She stumbles across a snake, owl, and a fox. They warn her about the mouse.

Gruffalos do not heed warnings. So her journey continues until she finds a little mouse. He's not what she was looking for, but nevertheless he looks yummy.

The quick-witted mouse hops onto a branch and creates a giant shadow in the moonlight! The gruffalo's child believes this to be The Big Bad Mouse and scurries back home! Let's just say that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! haha.. After getting her dose of adventure for one snowy night - she falls fast asleep in her father's arms. Check out the hieroglyphics on the cave's wall! They tell the story of the original book! Too precious.

These stories are marvelous! I would recommend reading The Gruffalo in the fall and The Gruffalo's Child in the winter. I think reading sequels is a fantastic way to boost comprehension. Children come to story time already equipped with some background knowledge. Including these books in unit about comparing/contrasting is also a must! The similarities and differences are endless!
