Today, I want to talk about Snowmen All Year by Caralyn and Mark Buehner. I adore The Buehner's Snowmen books... on one Wednesday long ago I even blogged about Snowmen at Christmas! I love snow and this book is a fun way to incorporate a little snow in the speech room all year long!On a snowy day, a young boy begins to daydream about a snowman made of magical snow that never melts! He thinks about all the fun adventures he would go on with his snowman. They catch fireflies, visit the beach, ride a roller coaster, and do TONS of other fun things together! This book is relatively short, making it ideal for a language therapy session!
There are so many ways you can use this book to enhance language!
1) Students can write about their own daydreams! Ask students what would they do with a snowman that could last all year?
2) Visualizing! This is the perfect book to introduce or practice visualization! Have students imagine what it would look like if a snowman dived into a pool or went camping!
3) WH questions - engage in dialogic book reading and ask TONS of WH questions along the way!
4) Sequencing/Retelling - I made a little story map that students can use to practice retelling the story!
If you would like to use this freebie in your speech room or classroom, you can download it HERE.
Have you used this book in the speech room? If so, what skills did you target?
