I loved the crazy shenanigans in How to Catch an Elf by Adam Wallace, so I decided to get the sequel - How to Catch a Leprechaun!
A very clever and nimble Leprechaun navigates a neighborhood on St. Patrick's Day! He manages to dodge trap after trap! Along the way, he stirs up an endless amount of mischief! He turns a toilet green and puts glitter in people's hair (just to name a couple tricks)!
This is a great book for speech-language therapy! It rhymes and it's a fun treat! There are so many ways that you can use this book to support language skills!
1) Describing - This little leprechaun manages to escape every trap! I think it would be so much fun to look at each trap and describe it! There's an iron cage (haha!), a mouse trap, a shoe-box with a stick, and loads more!
2) Problem Solving - I love addressing executive functioning skills. Students can look at each trap and decide what's wrong with it and how it can be improved! Students can even design their own trap. I created a little printable for this! Students can draw and design their trap and then explain how it works. There's lots of things to take into consideration such as bait (discuss what the leprechaun likes) and what failed in the book.
3) Rhyming - You can talk about the words that rhyme on each page. This is a great way to work on phonological awareness skills!
4) Character Traits - To say this leprechaun is confident would be an understatement! haha
5) Articulation - This is a fun book for the /l/ sound!
