The Luckiest St. Patrick's Day Ever by Teddy Slater
This is a fun singsongy book! It follows a leprechaun family throughout their St. Patrick's Day! You can use it to work on:
- Rhyming
- Vocabulary (shillelagh, shamrock, jig, and other lucky vocabulary words!)
- Comparing - talk about how the Leprechauns celebrated St. Patrick's Day versus how your students celebrate
The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing
I love this fun little series! It follows the same sequence as the beloved The Night Before Christmas story. A brother and sister set a leprechaun trap and of course some tricky shenanigans follow!

That's What Leprechauns Do by Eve Bunting
This one might be my favorite March read aloud! It's a cloudy day and three little leprechauns know that a rainbow is coming. They have to go get the gold ready! They tell themselves that they won't do anything mischievous along the way..... but they just can't help themselves. After all, that's what leprechauns do! :)

- Cause/Effect - They play lots of tricks!

Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie dePaola
I adore Tomie dePaola! In this book, he tells the story of Jamie O'Rouke - the laziest man in all of Ireland! He's too lazy to dig his potatoes and prepare for winter. He stumbles upon a leprechaun and of course he gets tricked... instead of taking his gold, he gets a seed that will grow the largest potato in the world! haha..
- Cause/Effect
- Vocabulary - This book is rich in vocabulary! It contains wonderful words like scamper and ponder!
- Problem Solving

Ten Lucky Leprechauns by Kathryn Heling
This is another fun rhyming story! Ten little leprechauns come together to find gold and become friends! You can use it to address:
- Verbs - Each little leprechaun is performing an action (ex. juggling, painting, etc)
- Adjectives - There is a describing word for each leprechaun too! (ex. nimble, silly, jolly, etc)
- Social Skills - making friends
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover by Lucille Colandro
The Old Lady is definitely the patron saint of speech therapy! haha! I love using these books! They follow a predictable pattern that is so helpful for children with language disorders!
- Sequencing
- St. Patrick's Day vocabulary
- Why questions (aside from the first item she swallows, there's a reason why she swallows everything else! For instance, she swallowed the daisy to brighten the clover!)

Green Shamrocks by Eve Bunting
Unfortunately, I think this book may be out of print! I decided to include it anyways, because it is a cute story! If you're ever in Goodwill, keep your eyes open for this one! A rabbit plants some shamrocks so that he can make a necklace for the St. Patrick's Day parade and then his pot goes missing! Oh no!
- Sequencing - Rabbit visits a variety of animals before he finds his shamrocks! You can also sequence the steps for planting a seed!
- Animal vocabulary - woodchuck, frog, goat, etc
- Problem Solving
St. Patrick's Day by Gail Gibbons
This book is a great way to incorporate non-fiction into your therapy sessions! This tells the story of Saint Patrick, which I think is very fascinating! It also talks about different ways the holiday is celebrated.

How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace
This is a funny story and I love the illustrations! A clever leprechaun outsmarts everyone! Can you think of a way to catch him next year?!
- Students can brainstorm traps and describe them!

- Adjectives (quick, smelly, speedy, etc)
