Mo Willems Books For Speech Therapy

Mo Willems is one of my favorite authors! He's so witty, funny, and his books are downright charming. They're perfect for speech-language therapy!

This is a true classic! The Bus driver leaves momentarily and instructs the reader to not let the Pigeon drive the bus! The Pigeon begs and pleads.... and even has a meltdown! haha! There are many language skills you can tackle!
- Persuasion
- Social Skills - how to deal when you don't get your way! haha
- Inferencing - at the end it shows a peek of a new vehicle he wants to drive, it's a great opportunity to infer!
- Vocabulary - talk about different types of vehicles, what other vehicles do you think pigeon would want to drive?

This is one of my absolute favorite pigeon books! He stumbles upon a hotdog and then a duckling comes along! Duckling is one of my favorite Mo Willems characters. The Duckling is so clever and everything always seems to go his way... unlike poor Pigeon.
- Describing - The Pigeon describes a hotdog for Duckling. Students can build upon his description! You can even take it further and describe other types of food!
- Inferencing - Why does Duckling say it needs mustard?
- Conversational Skills - Pigeon and Duckling go back and forth.

Imagine getting something just because you asked politely. Pigeon is absolutely blown away by this revelation! haha
- Social Skills - discuss manners and how to be polite
- Compare/Contrast - You can bring in a variety of cookies and compare/contrast them! Duckling gets a cookie with nuts (later we have to infer that he doesn't like nuts) and at the end asks for another cookie without nuts! This is a great way to make text-to-self connections and bring the book to life.

One of the reasons I adore this story is that Pigeon gets something that he wants... and he didn't even have to ask. :)

This is my ABSOLUTE favorite Mo Willems book! I even blogged about it years ago! It's a beautiful story of a Dinosaur that lives her best life and doesn't care that she's supposed to be extinct.... and try as he might, Reginald Von Hoobie-Doobie cannot rain on her parade. haha
- Social Skills - how to be a good friend
- Persuasion
You can scoop up a couple freebies for this book by clicking HERE.

Also, I'll be making a lap book and flip book companion for Edwina in July! It'll be part of my Literature Lap Books Growing Bundle (my TPT store link) - it's currently 70% off until I add in a few more packets!

Trixie and her dad go to the laundromat with her beloved stuffed animal - Knuffle Bunny. Halfway home, Trixie realizes that she no longer has Knuffle Bunny! Eeeek! I love this book, because it's inspired by Mo Willems' daughter!
- Problem Solving
- Sequencing
- Cause/Effect
- Why questions

Elephant and Piggie are a dynamic duo! Every speech room needs a few books from this series! In this book, Elephant has an amazing idea - to go for a drive! They work together... errr... Piggie works to collect all the items they'll need. At the end, they realize they don't have a car. haha! But they do have suitcases, sunglasses, umbrellas, etc! What could they do instead?!
- Sequencing
- Executive Functioning - planning a trip/drive
- Problem Solving - Elephant thinks of a ton of problems they may encounter and solves them! For instance, it might be sunny or it might rain! Piggie is pretty easy going and she solves their biggest problem.... if you don't have a car, play pirate instead!
What is your favorite Mo Willems book? I left out quite a few and I'm still working on building my collection! He has so many wonderful books! P.S. The book buddies are from the Kohls' Cares Program! Can you imagine my excitement when I saw them?!

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!
