Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse!

I'm so excited to announce that Wild About Books Wednesday is finally returning! Yep, for real this time! I have months of posts planned out! There are so many amazing books that are wonderful for speech-language therapy and I can't wait to share them all with you!

Today, I'm back with Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff!

Laura Numeroff's Mouse is one of my favorite characters of all time! His stories are just so precious and Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse! is no exception! It's almost Valentine's Day and Mouse is busy making valentines for his friends! There are so many fun ways to use this book in therapy!

1. Why Questions: Each page describes why mouse loves each of his friends. For instance, he loves Pig "because she's a good dancer" and Moose "because he's a good artist." It's perfect for working on those tricky why questions!
2. Inferencing: Each card represents his friends. For instance, his friend Rabbit is great at playing hide n' go seek so Mouse made him a card with a heart hiding in it! Have students look at each card and infer why they're designed the way that they are. Also, at the end there is a knock at the door! This is a great opportunity for students to make an inference. Who do they think is at the door?
3. Describing: Mouse's friends are all unique. Describe all of his friends!
4. Sequencing: What are the steps for making a valentine? You can even make a little companion craft! Students can describe the steps and then actually make a valentine for one of their friends - just like mouse did!

I found some foam hearts at Target that are perfect for making homemade valentines! You can use all sorts of materials too! Here are a few valentine supplies I've found on Amazon if you're looking for ideas:
