Witch Finger Pacing Sticks {Craft}

Can we just skip everything and go straight to Halloween themed speech therapy?! haha! If you've been following along with me over the years then you know that I'm a tad bit obsessed with Halloween. I just love Hocus Pocus, costumes, jack-o-lanterns, and of course.. the candy!

I love using pacing sticks in therapy. They're great for all sorts of things such as fluency/stuttering, apraxia, phonological disorders, and more! Your students will love these witch finger pacing sticks in October!
Here are just a few ideas for your speech room:
1) Your fluency students can work on flexible rate. They can touch each sticker on the pacing stick to help them create a slower and more relaxed pace.
2) Your fluency students can work on pausing and grouping words together.
3) I love using pacing sticks with students who exhibit initial, medial, or final consonant deletion. Each sticker will represent a sound in the word and they have to touch each sticker as they produce each phoneme. These are great, because they help students build awareness that words consist of multiple phonemes. :)
4) Super fast talkers. This will help slow them down a little bit and increase their intelligibility.
5) Students who are working on multisyllabic words will also benefit from using a pacing stick. Each sticker can represent a syllable in a word. As you can see above, I like to create a variety of pacing sticks. It's great to have some with 3, 4, 5, etc stickers on them!

If you have any other ideas for pacing sticks, please leave a comment below! I love new ideas!

These are SO simple to make! You just need a few items!
1) Green Foam Craft Sticks! I was originally going to use popsicle sticks and paint them green, but then I saw brightly colored foam sticks at Michael's! What a time-saver!
I found something similar on Amazon if you don't have time to pop into a Michael's. They're Darice Foam Craft Sticks and you get 125 in a pack!

2) Halloween Stickers! I found lots of sticker booklets at Michael's for only a $1 a piece! You'll definitely need stickers that will fit on your sticks! I bet you could even find some at the Target Dollar Spot!

3) Black pens! These are used to create the squiggly lines on the witch fingers! You know witches have lots of wrinkles on their fingers. haha.. Kids will love making the squiggle lines everywhere!

4) Black construction paper. You just cut out little black triangles and glue them at the top of the stick. These are the fingernails!

I know that crafts are not for everyone. Trust me.. I promise I'm not crafty at all! If I can make these, then I'm sure you and your students can make them with your eyes closed! haha

I do have NO PREP options though! Each packet in my Fluency In a Snap Bundle features two sets of pacing sticks (one seasonal set and one that goes along with that month's nursery rhyme).

The October Edition features some fun Frankenstein pacing sticks!
You can print them on Astrobrights paper or students can simply color them! Also, how fun are the witch fingers?! I found them at Michael's also! I found something similar on Amazon, just click HERE!
I also found some cute googly eyes! These fingers and crazy eyes will pair perfectly with these witch finger pacing sticks! I found some similar eyes on Amazon, just click HERE.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day! Enjoy some spooky speech in October!
