Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun Literature Lap Book!

Happy Wild About Books Wednesday! I missed last week, so I am doubling up today! Two books are better than one! One of the books I'm talking about today is one of my new favorites - Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy.

Spaghetti In a Hot Dog Bun is a wonderful story about being yourself. Lucy has super curly hair and her classmate Ralph often teases her. He calls her poodle and barks at her. One day, she packs spaghetti in a hot dog bun for lunch and he starts to bully her even more. The tables... oh they turn! Ralph gets stuck on the monkey bars and everyone starts to make fun of him, except for Lucy. She's the only one that lends a helping hand.

This is truly a must-read in any speech room or classroom. It talks about the importance of being kind and loving yourself.

There are so many ways that you can use this book to address communication skills!
1. Social Skills - getting along with others, being kind, manners, think vs. say, perspective taking, and the list is truly endless!
2. Compare/Contrast - compare Lucy and Ralph, students can compare themselves to Lucy or Ralph, etc
3. Problem Solving - What do you do if you're getting bullied? How do you help someone who is in trouble?

I also made a lap book companion that targets a TON of different goals!

The Lap Book activities address describing, vocabulary, sequencing, story elements, comprehension, and more! These activities can be placed inside a lap book or in an interactive reading/language notebook. There is also a flip book that can be layered inside the middle of the lap book or it can stand alone!

Papa Gino is Lucy's grandpa and he offers her such amazing advice! There is a little booklet where students can talk about the things that he said and what they mean! You can even reference Papa Gino's wisdom throughout the school year to remind students how important it is to be kind!
